I didn't plan on this.

I took a few Large Cents that weren't as close to the look I wanted, used them as part of a new purchase, and now I think my set is looking pretty consistant throughout. It's getting fun.

Hard to tell from the images, but looks like a solid VF 25. So that would make it EAC F15 I think?

What do you grade it? I am not knowledgible on early copper, but it looks better than the "VF 25/EAC F15" grades AnkurJ suggested.

It was graded EF40 by PCGS, but it's a net VF-30 EAC Graded. I'm kind of calling it VF-35.

That is a beautiful S-9! AnkurJ is not too far off. The look of the coin is incredible. Most of the ones I have seen offered (outside of auctions) have had deep gouges from trapped air or man made surface issues after leaving the mint. I can only imagine what large cents you brought in to trade for this one... want to give us some idea?

I bought it from Tom Reynolds. Tom always gives me his unvarnished opinions on a coin, if I ask and I've always found it helpful - especially because his level of expertise and because his experience is quite a bit more extensive than my own. Doug Bird is helpful in the same sort of way.

Plenty of them out there,but very few with that clean planchet.Hell of a deal.

I can tell you what I think of it. When I opened the thread and saw that coin, I said out loud, "WoooooH". You gave up some interesting coins but this is one sweet and rare coin! Good going.

Well you certainly gave up some nice coins as part of your "down payment" but I suspect that you will be happy in the long run with the upgrade and the new look! Really nice and Tom Reynolds is a good guy.

It's a great example. Are the surfaces as nice as they appear?

The fields are somewhat reflective, and there is minor chatter and a couple of small marks to note, but nothing that is a major distraction for me. To the naked eye, only one mark is easily noticed, in the right field. The fields are pretty clean and pretty smooth.
