Is 1850 Seated Liberty Dollar a Sleeper?

I rarely see these up for sale. The 1850-O seems to be readily available, in contrast to the 1850. The low mintage of the 1850 along with large melting in the 1850's makes this one seem to be to be a sleeper. Opinions?

    Apart from a handful of dates, I think most seated dollars are pretty scarce. Then if you take out the cleaned and problem coins, the small population available drops substantially. This series is hard enough to find nice TYPE examples of for the 7070 sets.....to attempt collecting them by date and mm is quite formidable.

    It is tough.

    Many of the 1850's dollars are really hard.
    I seldom check PM's but do check emails often jason@seated.org

    All seated coins from 50 51 52 are good to buy up in any grade , imo.

    It's hard to call any seated dollar a sleeper these days. It's a small set of coins compared to dimes through halves and much harder to hide out.
    For decades most of the Philly dates from 1853-1868 were sleepers, especially the 54 and 55. The 1851 and 1852 have always been recognized due to their
    ultra low mintages. And only 7,500 minted it would be hard to call the 1850 a sleeper date ever. Back in the 1970's it was harder to find an 1854 or 1855 for sale due to their
    cheap catalog values vs. the higher priced 1850. I'd bet that a fairly high % of 1850-1852 were saved due to those tiny mintages, not so much for the follow on years.
    I've not followed the seated dollars closely the past few decades but it would not surprise me if the 1854 and 1855 were rarer than the 1850, even though they have 4X the mintage.
    I've always like the 50-0 in high grade (strong XF45 to AU or better). I doubt very many 1850 dollars were melted. Even using a typical 0.3-0.5% survival rate from that period would
    suggest 225-375 specimens extant. That seems like a reasonable number to me.

    At pcgs there are 20 in 58 and 35 better

    CAC has stickered 5 in 58 and 5 better both services.

    Original surface specimans are tough.

    Are you saying you can find that coin for just a few dollars?

    I have been looking for a long time and they are never cheep even the cleaned ones.

    ( source coinfacts).

    The one that sold for 5200 was in a pcgs OGH....they both looked dipped to me.....

    I don't know if they subsequesntly sticked but I like mine original surfaces.

    I paid about 8% above pcgs price guide for the coin I posted and was very happy.
