What is the Value of this? How rare is it?

I sold this and was wondering what a fair price would have been?

<< <i>a tidy sum since it is an R-6 die marraige >>

Sounds like you should have asked that question before you sold it. Did you know it was a very rare die marriage?

You guys are sharp ,,, I listed it and was expecting around $100-200 . They said it war a R-7 . I was wondering if some one can explain to me what it is,, I listed it as a bust dime and that was all. If I did not have 2 bidders who wanted it would have sold it for around $150.00 and been happy. IF you guys know what a fair price would have been I will tell you what I sold it for...

You can find the auction price realized for Russ Logan's raw VF-20. Make sure you're sitting down before you look it up though. And have some smelling salts in hand. The example you sold is inferior to Logan's, but you get the idea.

Ok ... I sold it for $3300.00. The first day it went to $400.00 and was wondering why so much. I am a rookie at these. But then the bidding went to $1800. I wondered if the bidders were just bidding it up because they did not like each other. The end bid was $3300.00 and the guy who bought it sent me an e-mail and told me about the die marrage thing and said it was a R-7 and he said he paid a fair price. I always wondered did he ??????

Those die marriage collectors are serious collectors and will pay up for the ones they need.

Based on a comparison of internet images of your coin to internet images of the Logan example, you did fine. The Logan specimen, as described above, hammered at $3200 about 5 years ago in a Stack's Signature sale.

That is a fairly nice example of a scare R6/R6- die marriage. And the price attained is very reasonable.

Wow ! I always wondered .. Saw one go for $7500.00 it was better then mine. My problem is I have a bunch more of Bust Halfs, Bust Quarters and about a dozen bust dimes that I am afraid to list because I really dont understand the concept of the die thing. I know its added value but I have no idea what the hell I am looking for and what the values may be. Education is a must but I need direction as to where and what is the best book or books to find out about these dies.

Not anything of smoking gun magnitude, but then sometimes the reason for such rarities is the subtlety which escapes discovery by the masses. Take a look here

Send me pics and I will be happy to ID the Bust Dime die marriages and their respective rarity for you.

I can probably give you more information than you want on each coin!

My best advice to you, if you don't have the time or inclination to do the research yourself, is to list the coins on eBay with nice big pictures, run them for seven days with no reserves, and don't take any offers to sell off eBay. As you found out, the specialists are crawling all over eBay and coins seldom slip between the cracks. If you have a rare coin, the bidders will tell you.

Thanks for all the help. I always wondered if I was paid a fair price for a coin that I had no idea of how rare it was. I will remember big pictures when selling.

Nice photography too, although I find taking pictures of coins outside of the 2x2 easier.
