fake silver eagles surface in Toronto

Coin World is reporting that ten 2011 fake ASEs have surfaced in Toronto, containing no silver. Close enough to fool a dealer.

Among the diagnostics:

Thinner reverse lettering.
Weight is 32.608 g. vs. the correct 31.101 g.
Fake is 20-25% thicker and slightly smaller in diameter.
Date digits larger and spaced farther apart.
Length of the first ray to the left of the sun is shorter.
Top of the L in LIBERTY extends farther left of the third ray.
Stars above eagle's head are slightly smaller and not as sharp in detail.
Eagle's beak is larger, almost parrotlike.
E in LIBERTY is almost completely exposed where on an authentic ASE the bottom of the E is almost completely covered.

Readily apparent to anybody who has ever seen a genuine silver eagle, but they are reportedly selling them in the middle of rolls of other, genuine coins.

You now need to look at every one you buy, unless you are getting new rolls from an established B&M.
