A video of a good roll hunt for your Saturday afternoon enjoyment (~$650 in silver)

This was my third dream box, busted it open last night. Decided to record it since some people elsewhere have insinuated, multiple times, that I embellish my finds. Haters gonna hate...
Anyway, here's the youtube link since I don't think you can embed video here yet.

I ended up with 1 Walker, 2 Franklins, 8 '64's, and 112 40% silvers. My best box ever, out of over $450k in boxes.

Not sure how you get rid of the commons in such bulk.
Great finds though!

The very first box I unrolled, I did find 44 silver halves, but it's all been downhill since then. I still enjoy it and you can't beat the free silver!
Congrats!

I am going down Monday morning and ordering $1000 in halfs.
I will give it a try.
Nothing to lose for sure.
My friendly credit union is used to me bringing in pennys and will be shocked with halfs when I turn them in.
I will report back after I get and open them.
Thanks for sharing with the video.
Love the treasure hunt!!!

<< <i>That's pretty cool the way you wrapped up all those rolls after sprinkling the silver throughout them all.
Now, the best business model is to pack those suckers up again, patch the ends with one silver on each end, throw them up on TheBay as "unsearched" and sit back and watch the feeding frenzy

Congrats dude, very awesome treasure hunting. Like pitboss I too am inspired. After all, who doesn't like free silver?
I'm curious do you have better luck with boxes from ghetto area banks? or nicer-area banks? I live equal distance from both. I could try one from each but, figured it doesn't hurt to ask the master

But now I've got the code so I can copy and paste it on future occasions where it is warranted.
PS- it was the middle of one of my graveyard shifts, I was waiting for my night auditor reports to print off, and was killing some time. There wasn't much else goin' on here. So I'm not a TOTAL loser. Haha.)

Very creative and cool. Well done.

Went down to Wells Fargo today and ordered $1000 worth off half's.
Probably should have got $500 but $1000 is twice the fun.
They looked at me like I was crazy.
Were they right?
I will know in 2 weeks when I get them.
Wish me luck.
That is cool. You sure are fast at opening and sorting.
They then throw them in the counter and either give me the money or put it in my account.
How many boxes do you estimate have produced zero keepers, 10 keepers, and 50 keepers out of the 900-some boxes you've searched? Your distribution of success would be interesting to a lot of people.

It takes volume, lots of effort, luck and favorable demograpgics for this to work...
I'll try another box, but it's pretty discouraging out on the West coast. I get the feeling we're 'fished out' here.

30-40 boxes every week will do that, this was a slow box by my standards.
For those of you ordering, good luck, but don't get your hopes up. I've had 3 boxes that produced more than 100 keepers out of over 900 boxes. It's a lot of work, and almost always, you come away with very little for your efforts. Just makes the rare occasions where you hit dream boxes all that much more special...
I don't use counters, I don't rewrap. I have a special service that I pay a bit extra for that allows me to use my own coin bags, I drop them off and they give me cash on the spot. The bags are weighed/counted if necessary and any discrepancies added/deducted from my account. Good luck finding a bank willing to do that for you, took me over three years of relationship building to get that. >>
Do you record all searches or just have a hunch on this one?
<< <i>Congrats! Just 5 years ago, every box had 5 to 10 keepers. My last 5 boxes a big goose egg. After seeing your success, I will probably order a brick today when I head over to my bank. >>
No silver in the above box.

<< <i>I watched about 45 seconds of it and then fell asleep from boredom. But I'm glad that you scored! >>
lol, I zipped to the end where I was hoping to see the loot, caught a quick shot of it though

I have been known to go... how shall I say... "Out of my way" to put something together like that...lol. I thought it was cool.

When I signed up here I was doing 4 boxes a week, plus traveling to surrounding banks for CWRs, hence the halfhunter username. Mined a lot of good silver back then, but things seemed to dry up from bank rolls in 08/09 so much that it finally just wasn't worth the effort anymore.

Oops, read the rest of the thread, you got 2 40% silver?
After you purchase the $1,000 or $2,000 worth of halves from your bank or credit union, after you go through them all, where do you go to turn the coins back in? You don't take them back to the same place you purchased the rolls do you? Won't that irriate the bank, and prevent you from ordering more?
Also, do you folks find that if you take them to a different bank, that bank gets a bit ticked off at the thousands of dollars being brought in coins? (Do you have one place that you buy/order the coins and another that is the dumping grounds of the no-go coins?)
Finally, if you want to cash them in in a Coinstar type machine, you lose 9 to 10%, which certainly isn't worth doing.
I appreciate the feedback.

I guess it's good but I don'[t know if it's worth the work.
They are heavy!
Most of the metro are banks would yield about 3-5 silver halves out of 500, the outer area banks had a lot more. the best find that one of my customers got was about 140 face in 90% out of a box of 500 halves, not to mention piles of 40%. (I would guess that some elderly person rolled those up and took them to the bank)
