Newp: 1835 Capped Bust quarter (w/grading poll)

With early 2013 upon us, I've sold a huge portion of my "holey" collection and my love token set, and will be putting some of those proceeds towards my "core" collection of ancients.

However, the sale of the love tokens leaves me without any active collections over here on the US side, so I figure I'll start another circulated set. I'll be revisiting old ground once again and will be playing with a Dansco 7070-style collection, but this time in the VF-XF range, and only the 19th century types. I'll be looking for "Circulation Cameos" in the silver.

Here's the first purchase in that direction. This coin had some light "CircCam" contrast and the eBay BIN looked reasonable. But I noticed there was also a "Best Offer" option so I used that and got it for a few dollars less. I'm pleased.

Seller said it is a B-1. I'll have to rely on you Bust quarter specialists to confirm that.

For the record, I voted VF25, though the obverse is probably only VF20 at best. I thought the reverse looked VF30-ish, personally, so I just split the difference and voted VF25.

Regardless of technical grade, I think I'll be pretty pleased with it for the price. I paid a good bit below Redbook and Numismedia VF20 price, perhaps F15-ish money for it.

    I like it as a VF20 image

It is a VF20. The small nick removes any chance of VF25, I think.

I think it would grade problem free, but net to a 20 for the nicks.

It is very close to a 20; if I could I'd call it a F-18.5.

Pretty close to my thoughts. I called it a 15 because I didn't think there was enough meat on the obverse for a 20....but it's close.

Voted F15...VF grade but a few scattered nicks knocks her down.

A nice pick-up for type image

With the F-15 crowd on this one.

OK, so the consensus seems to be running to F15, and I was perhaps a bit overenthusiastic in my vote. Looking at the obverse, I can understand. If it were closer to the reverse in terms of detail, this would be a nice VF.

Oh, well. I still like it, and I guess I paid roughly F15 money for it, so while I didn't get a great rip pricewise, I did OK. It has the look I like.

    Said 25... but 20 wouldn't surprise me.

That obverse wear looks pretty deep.

I'd go with VF20. Only because I initially thought it was a 25, and know that I have a tendency to over-grade a little bit image
