Major pics of an incredible and rarely clearly seen DDO on a H10c.

From Mark Goodman's office to your home video photos of the what appears to be the widest DDO in existence in the Liberty Seated genre, who says the 1955 DDO is the big Kahuna of Doubled Dies, meet the 1872 H10c in all it s glory ie lots of big pics:

As always Marks pictures are great too.
Hoard the keys.

Neat but the 55 Wheatie is so dramatic you can spot the DDO with the naked eye.
I don't think this variety is all that common, as I have owned over 400 Seated H10c in my collecting career, and never owned one of these. The possibility of cherrypicking one off eBay is indeed there, but consider that I have also cherrypicked several major varieties in the Seated halves in the last two years. 1841-o baseball crack in XF45, 1840 medium letters reverse in AU55, 1875-s micro-s in VG10. Plus, I saw an 1873 Open 3 half in nice VG go off for $50 BIN while I was not paying attention (facepalm). These coins are all in VERY high demand, and three of them are R5 or better. And how many closed bud 1841-o dimes have we seen cherrypicked on eBay over the years? Rare varieties due turn up on there from time to time, and those of us who are "ready" end up getting them.
I'm really glad RealOne shared his example, which is the nicest I have seen. I had better go check the H10c category on eBay before a crowd of people see this thread and rush off to hunt them down.
<< <i>That is neat doubling, but not as dramatic as the 1873 DDO Seated Dime. >>
Actually, if I wanted to be a nitpicking troll, I'd point out that it isn't even the widest doubled die on a Seated coin for the year, what with the 175-degree rotation on the 1872 DDR dime.
I do want to say that it is wonderful to see such clear pictures of a high-grade example, as Realone said the pics in the guidebooks typically only show one small area or pick-up point. On the pics in the OP you can really appreciate just how much is going on there (I believe I said the same thing when you posted huge pics of your 1873 DDO dime).

Looking for Top Pop Mercury Dime Varieties & High Grade Mercury Dime Toners.
The coin is a DDO, but I am used to seeing more recently minted doubled die coins (i.e the 1955, 1969 S, 1972 DDO cents and the 1961 DDR proof half dollar). The doubling on this pictured half dime looks very different from the examples of more recent vintage. When I first looked at the photos I thought that the coin had the appearance of a coin that has machine doubling since the doubled portion seems to be very flat. Looking at the photos more closely clearly shows that it is a doubled die coin.
<< <i>the closeups make the lettering look incused to my eyes >>
It's an optical illusion.
Neat coin.

+1 again! It's totally bugging me out!
ty for offering us the best images in numismatics for these closeups
if we had more people to take images like this for sites, all of numismatics would be a very different place
.
When you discussed the 1955 as a DDO reference, I recalled your 1873, which I like better because it is so unusual.
Nice to see it again.
We have discussed "most spectacular" DDOs/DDRs before,
and I have always liked the 1876-CC 20c. (Similar in a lot of ways to the 1873 10c).
Pretty much unaffordable for most, but the images are free....
The 1876 DDR mentioned upthread does have great separation, but is not as spectacular as the 1873 or 1876-CC in my view,
because the doubled elements are not lines or letters/digits.
There are nice images on Gerry Fortin's excellent site:
http://www.seateddimevarieties.com/date_mintmark/1872_115page.htm
A good case was also made for a trade dollar (1876-CC) as most spectacular DDR, as it can be seen in so many places and the separation is good.
