I stopped trying to control the post office years ago. My packages already enjoy jumping around the country for no reason, so this probably won't change much image

Back in the 1950s, we got mail twice a day M-F and once on Saturday.
I remember my parents complaining when the mail went to once a day!
I'm OK with no Saturday delivery, since 98% of the time I get junk mail.

I'm cool with no Saturday delivery but I hope post offices (at least some) maintain some Saturday hours. It's often the only time working stiffs can get there.

Well, since FedEx and UPS don't deliver on Saturday's, I guess that USPS is getting closer to their competition. Does DHL Deliver on Saturdays?

Its funny how their competition it killing them. UPS is literally shipping them to bankrupcy via Fedex.... Look at reality: 3 companies, 2 of which are private, 1 of which is govt owned. 2 are very prosperous, the other cant get it together.

They have different operating rules which allow the private companies to avoid providing unprofitable services. The USPS charges 46 cents to deliver anywhere, whether it's a densely populated area (where it's more cost-effective to deliver) or a house 50 miles away from the nearest post office.

Not a fair comparison. USPS is highly regulated in what they can and can't do, the public companies are not.

The only guys who will really notice will be the carriers, and they won't take notice until the following Monday with a heavier load. It's not likely they'll push delivery up a day.

    My bad.

FedEx doesn't "pickup" on Saturdays in "my" location.

    "Service Details
Service Areas: U.S. Saturday delivery is available in the majority of U.S. cities with FedEx First Overnight®, FedEx Priority Overnight® and FedEx 2Day® services."

FedEx does offer free pickup services but UPS, on the other hand, charges a pickup fee (in MY area).

It doesn't really matter though since most folks consider the USPS service to be an entitlement and even though few use it, they all seem to whine about the same decibel levels when postage goes up a penny or two. Given the volume of mail handled on a daily basis and the constraints which limit how the USPS can charge for their service, it was only a matter of time before it became unprofitable.

What I'd like to see is the USPS charging mcuh much MORE for the Bulk Mailings since this stuff usually goes immediately from MailBox to trash can yet requires the same if not more in labor to sort and deliver. Heck, for that matter, I don't think the $1.00 1st Class Postage is too far out of line with today's high labor cost society.
