I like #1 better. It has a more original looking skin.
While I'm a fan of toned coins the second one just doesn't do it for me.

2nd coin has a much better strike - particularly on Ms. Liberty's head and breast. I happen to like the toning on the 2nd one better but I do like the light natural olive tone and skin on the 1st coin better.
if I had to pick one, I would take #2 all things considered

As far as the 2nd coins being AU58, I will defer.. I think it is nearly impossible to state that with certainty without an in hand inspection (to clarify, the coin could be determined as AU from a picture with obvious luster break/circulation handling marks etc. - To determine specific/exact grade from a picture is what I meant)

+1 This was almost my exact answer after viewing the coin without reading any responses. The spotchiness of the toning doesn't appeal to me.

    I dunno.

They're both nice. Each has nice enough skin to qualify for my tastes. The first is more softly struck.

It would come down to how they look in-hand. The photo of the second one isn't terribly attractive to me, but in-hand it might be a really nice coin. The first coin is a little easier to predict without seeing it in person.

I actually like #1 more even though I'm usually a fan of color. The spots on #2 aren't my preference.

#2 has "secondary toning." While pretty, it indicates that the coin was dipped and retoned. #1 is more natural, and I will prefer it.

I agree based off of PCGS standards but I like it as a NGC 63. Its a 64 with good eye pop and only a tiny bit of rub, consistant with NGC net grading standards. Might even sticker but I like number 1 although it might have been lightend at some point

They're both nice, but I like #1 (the MS64) a bit better. While the colors and target toning are awesome on #2, the spotty toning breaks keep it away from total "monster" status, IMHO.

I like #1. Better strike...better everything. Number 2 is a typical ngc unc, which is AU.

I tend to like older plastic with stickers...

    er...uh you mean the coins.image

Both have their attributes. #1 is more of an even satin luster, but weaker strike. #2 has nice toning, maybe secondary but a nice strike. I tend to like #2.
Wish the plastic was hidden for this comparison.

The first one by far, it has a very wholesome look. The second coin has been cleaned and has acquired unattractive secondary toning.

Interesting that because of holder bias coin #2 is "assumed" by some to be an AU with high point friction....yet coin #1 has the identical discoloration on the exact same high points.
And both coins have the same depth of field luster from what I see. image

I don't think either coin is orig skinned and I'd prefer something more original looking or blasty for my MS63 or MS64 dollars. If I had to keep one I'd go with #1 only because it's more
liquid in the market place as a stickered ogh. The coins probably had similar toning within the past 25 years or so. I almost looks like coin #2 sat in an early NGC holder for years and
toned in that deeper pattern due to the active insert.

I demand full stars so would reject both. #1 looks like a staple scratch at right of date ?
#2 has more eye appeal and maybe better luster if seen in person. Both are great if the
price is right, which is always the case. image

I like #1 the best. I find the reverse on #2 appealing but the obverse not so much.

Assuming that neither have any sentimental value, I'd sell them both and find a better toned one. Unless you don't like toned coins much. Then I'd keep the first. It's much more deserving of its grade, in my opinion. The luster on it is nice as well.

I'm saying #1 ... higher grade, original skin, OGH
#2 ain't shabby but appears to have a print through the obverse rim toning...or at least it looks like a possible print.

I prefer the first one as well. The second one has typical toning, neither attractive or unattractive, whereas the first one appears much more natural and aesthetically pleasing.

I prefer the PCGS example because of the overall look of the coin (which is primo by the way) although I also own a couple of coins with color as well though not as dramatic as the NGC example. Both coins are gorgeous and please, excuse the drool. image

I like them both, tho I'm inclined to agree that there is high point wear on #2, and just high point discoloration on #1. Would have to hold them both in hand to be certain. There are lots of 1891's around, but I never tire of seeing them!
