Does your Dealer sell DIP?

Last weekend I was trying to find a source for a new can of Jeweluster.
I was quite surprised to find that none of the 3 geographically closest dealers to me carry the item.
Phone calls resulted in:
"No, we don't carry that kind of stuff."
"No, we do not sell that."
"We do not clean coins, Sir!"
I ended up going to Bed, Bath, and Beyonce or something like that, where I knew I would be paying nearly twice the going rate for their version of dip.
I've got to remember to pick up a spare Jeweluster at the next show!

If they don't, you should look in their back room....it looks like a chemistry lab!! (from personal observation of many Canadian dealers).

The other dealer can't be bothered. He's more of a jewelry shop
and bullion house.

yes unfortunately. the closest retail dealer to me has cleaned/dipped more coins than most dealers will ever even see in a lifetime, probably including myself.
i can say i've only dipped about 6-12 coins, a few were testers and the others were too grimy even for me. (one capital mult-silver set proof holder needs all the silver coins dipped from extreme haze and i sold them for melt anyway, just dipped them for principal)
but having sold many thousands of coins, seems like a pretty good percentage.

Your kidding right? What would the sniffer make of cumbermellon?
Eric
It's almost the same stuff they sell as drain cleaner. Tarnex could be considered a substitute.

Yeah I'm Kidding. Funny to picture a product like that next to the fancy soaps and hair conditioners.
Not saying they don't have some sort of dip......I would just be cautious using it on coins. Test it first on some pulled from circ change.

I'd [o]only use something intended for this use.
Improperly removed rinse residue can appear the day after the day after tomorrow. Or later.

<< <i>Tarnex is coin dip and can be bought in most drug stores, Target, Walmart, etc. >>
I continue to be confused about this dipping / cleaning vs not cleaning business. Won't the sniffer reject dipped coins? I know I saw urea on the list of prohibited substances (OP'er mentioned thiourea).

If the sniffer detects anything on a dipped coin, it means the coin was improperly rinsed and could change in the slab over time as a result of the remaining dip residue.
