Never seen this type of holder before

I have seen the NCI Photo Graded picture with the coin stapled to the photo but not a holder
that looks like a PCGS Rattler. Anybody know about them.

Thanks
Tiny

NCI was started by Jim Halprin of Heritage fame. According to Conder 101: "NCI9 Used for a short period by itself beginning in 1989 before NCI folded, it was also being used in concert with NCI 7 & 8." They used to be plentiful, but I haven't encountered one in 2 or 3 years.

NCI was a grading company started and owned by Heritage. The grading was known to be about a point higher than PCGS and NGC standards but the grading was consistent.

Jim Halperin was and is one of the greatest hands-on numismatists/graders of the last 30+ years. I'm pretty sure he was the winner of the first PCGS dealer grading contest. He was also at least 5 years ahead of everyone else in numismatics using computers as a business tool.

NCI grades were a point looser than NGC/PCGS when the latter started. My guess: considering gradeflation, 90% of what they graded would be spot on today. The NCI Grading Guide was the first modern grading instructional book. At this time, the PCGS Grading Guide no doubt exceeds it, but many of the principles it illustrates are derived from this seminal work. image
