Bills or coins. We can have either one but not both. People will use them freely and willingly when there is no other option. IMO we should dump the $1 and $5 bill, the cent, and the nickel, but that would be an admission of a failed monetary policy. Not likely we'll see that anytime soon.

I say no need to go any further....getting dicey with Clinton, Obama, etc! Not in their lifetimes for sure.

It makes too much sense to use coins for pieces of rag that wears out in less than two years. Why we still have coin dollars floating around from the 1980"s even now.

Nonsense!! The program must continue. I propose mintage be reduced to 1000. Collectors would be offered these pieces by lottery for $5000.

I never understood why the Presidential dollar program ever came about in the first place. The Sacagawea dollar more than covered the needs of a circulated coin whether the dollar bill was stopped or not. It seems it was just another avenue for the mint to enter the coin collecting sales business by offering a abundance of unnecessary products. I suspect most of the Presidential dollars will follow the same path as the Susan B. Anthony dollar. They will be dumped on foreign countries that use our dollar as their currency.

I haven't got a coin dollar in change in decades. I hope they cut off production of circulating dollar coins and just continue them for collectors. I think it would also be nice to have real gold versions of them for collectors.

I think this guy is barking up the wrong tree. Look, kill the bill and use the dollar coins. It is easy. Here is my plan

Eliminate the penny - now you have a slot for the dollar coin in cash registers
Kill the dollar bill. People complain about having too many dollar coins? Nonsense. The two dollar bill replaces the dollar bill. Strippers will be happy!
Yes, some vending machines will have to change to accept $2 bills and dollar coins.
Let's all remember, at one time, vending machines took pennies/cents. They do not anymore. The vending industry needs to move forward.

Now, the collector side of me though says keep the cent. So I need to get over it also.

Just a quick check in my wallet and there are dollar bills there from 2006 and they look like they could go on a bit longer. I think you can get 10 years out of most of them at least if they were not circulated near strip club areas. Now what does a 10 year circulated golden dollar look like. Got to be UGLY.

They could make it in proof and mint sets only and satisfy much of the collector demand.
