An opportunity has very recently presented itself that has left me contemplating my numismatic past and my way ahead. I've been collecting since I was nine, been a member of this little family here at PCGS.com for coming on a decade. I've bought and sold some great coins, some as a vest pocket dealer, some as a collector, some as a coin scout. I've hit some home runs and had some strike outs while learning that lots of doubles are sometimes best. I have come to love and embrace my dual hatted nature in the hobby after a long period of thinking that it was impossible to be both collector and dealer at the same time. I have come to realize that I will never be a full time dealer, nor do I want to be. I do wish I could have kept that OGH MS66 bust quarter ColJessup...and that 1809/8 5$ FinallyHere.

I have never put together or completed a set, be it type or series, and I am ok with that. I miss some coins that I have sold, mainly my AU bust halves that went to Don Willis, and some odds and ends, but for the most part, I have no real regrets. I've made some legitimately good and dear friends on this board and elsewhere along the way and have had a mostly good time being here. I've worked my butt off selling and shipping and researching and developing my eye. Amazing the time that has gone by. Can't imagine what some of the more, shall we say "seasoned" collectors have seen in double or more the collecting time.

I am very happy with the coins that are currently in the collection. They represent and capture very clearly my tastes. Equally important, each have what I would call a "signature look". I think that most of the great collections of the last century have had some sort of signature...and no....I don't consider myself in that company, but I do strive for it. All in all, I am in the most content place I have even been as a collector. I don't feel rushed. I don't feel anxious. I don't feel doubtful or wandering. I feel ready...if that makes any sense. And, I am having fun.

If this opportunity is acted on, it has become apparent in my contemplations that two things will happen. First, I will be very focused on a singular series of coins that are excruciatingly difficult to locate, but very rewarding when found. Second, I will cement my transition away from U.S. coinage in a very definitive way as the cost of this endeavor is going to strain my numismatic finances considerably. Nothing is in stone yet, not by a long shot, but this feels like an opportunity that I can't pass up. And, like any opportunity, it closes doors in certain ways as well.

I have been dabbling and dawdling in this direction for quite some time now, but a fork in the road has been reached. Should be interesting to see where it takes me! image

I'll sign off with some forward movement on other fronts, and that is cataloging and putting into a consistent format all of the coins that have made the cut over the years. In some cases they have made tens of cuts! The cataloging is quite enjoyable as is composing and tweaking the write ups. I'll leave you with probably my favorite circulated coin. Everyone here has almost certainly seen it but I really never do get tired of it. It represents the Highmoon brand quite well. (TB, if its mate comes available, some lightside exceptions will be made) Enjoy! Out....for now.
