Yep, that's the way they were issued in Proof.

Not. These are an aftermarket revision of the Mint slip case. The Mint never made a Proof Silver Ike slip case with raised embossing of Nixon's signature or the Presidential Seal.

I don't think that is true. I have 1971 S in "wood" boxes without the seal and Nixon signature.
I just do not recall ever seeing the Brown box for the 1971-s or any other date look like this.
Could it be aftermarket? That seems plausible
If it were aftermarket, was the entire wood grain replaced? It would seem that would be required because the smaller seal in the lower right corner would need to come off and I doubt that could be easily done without replacing the entire cover to the box.
I am wondering if it is not a VIP issue or if the box cover changed shortly after the first issues were done-
Edited to add- see Ebay listing- not my coin- just shows a small seal in the lower right cornerText

These "brown boxes" are woodgrained on both sides and since the listing only shows one side of the box, I strongly expect that the seal which is on every one of these is on the side which cannot be seen.
Besides, the listing states: "stamped Nixon signature" which tells me "aftermarket".
I definitely believe that its aftermarket marketing.
The name is LEE!
<< <i>Never made the connection. Nixon was Ike's vice president. Hm. >>
Huh?
Nixon signed the bill authorizing the production of the coin on Dec 31st, 1970. The first "Proof" coins were not mailed out until 2,180 were mailed in October 1971 followed by much larger numbers in December 1971.

Don't mind me. I'm not feeling well ...
Did anybody here buy them?
