I have lurked here for several years now and I know several of the forum members here. Based upon their encouragement I have decided to sign up and join in the fun.
I am an avid Dahlonega mint enthusiast and am currently putting together the 9 coin type set. I only need the first coin minted, an 1838-D Half Eagle to complete my set. I am all about originality and like others here you can consider me a dirty gold collector. I am also putting together a 50 pc early commen set, and like my gold, I like them original and colorful.
JJSingleton, my forum name, was the first Superintendent of the Dahlonega Branch Mint. I look forward to sharing what I know and learning from you all as well.

<< <i>Welcome to the Forum! You and I would make good bookends, in that George Kellogg was the last Superintendent-Treasurer of the Dahlonega Mint. >>
There were quite a few Superintendents that served between you and me over the 23 years the mint operated. In fact it was the third Superintendent, James F Cooper that you quote in your sig line "Clamorous for Coin".
I will admit that it was your forum name that gave me the idea for mine.

I don't know how much time any of y'all have actually spent in Dahlonega, but if you've never been it's actually a cool place. There's a ton of great music, vineyards, waterfalls and camp grounds, even white water tubing in Summer. There's also a ton of festivals year-round including the ginormous "Gold Rush Festival" that happens mid-October. One of my favorite GA places to visit.

I agree, Dahlonega is not only a nice place to visit but a nice place to live. My mountain home up on the ridge is 10 miles from the town square as the crow flies. You missed the one place that visitors, especially coin collectors, should see while visiting. That being the Dahlonega Gold Museum.
