1936 proof set

How hard is to complete a seven piece 1936 proof set in PF65 with the cents red and without spots and the quarter and half without that whitish haze? Can it be done within the PCGS price guides?

Don't know about the price, but I believe it should be done. I've seen the cent in proof 65 without spots.

Finding nice, original, uncleaned and nicely toned and hazed coins with original "pixie dust" as Bear called it would be very tough. I see a lot of 1936 Mercs. You'll see a good amount of white I think.

I am attempting to complete the 1936 - 1942 Registry proof set in Rattler holders graded 65/CAC.

I've got 28 of the 38 coins required but am getting to the point of needing some serious help with some of the others.image

This is what I have for the 1936 coins.

And for quality (like any other coin) you can toss the price guides.

Best of luck with the set.

Nice job etexmike! I too have thought about doing a 1936 Proof Set but it sure seems to be a challenge.

  • Those are very impressive etexmike. But the quarter reverse looks weaker than an unc strike. I can see why that is the one item that had new dies (type B) made for 1937.

It can be done but you will have to pay the money.

I'll speak to the Lincolns, you'll have a much easier time finding the Ty2 brilliant in 65RD problem free. Finding a nice TY 1 that is problem free and truly RD is the challenge. This one will command a nice premium.

When I look at the auction prices from Heritage I don't see these coins bringing more than the PCGS price guide even thought I know a spot-free PF 65 red satin cent is hard to find. The haze on the silver coins is also prevalent but I don't see prices higher than the price guides. Are these trading outside the auctions - I looked at Penny Lady and Eagle Eye for the cents but didn't see any for sale.v Angel Dee's don't seem over the price guide.
