Raw coin auctions?

I used to use eBay quite a bit to purchase raw coins, but it seems like anymore, most sellers use buy it now listings. It gets tiresome looking at the same stuff over and over, and anything good ends up gone in a heartbeat.

I know of most online coin auctions, but all the ones I know are for slabbed coins.

Does anyone know of a coin auction house that deals with raw as well?

From comments you've made here, I think I'd advise you to steer clear of buying raw coins.

RAW looking went to the wayside when the values I look for went to the high side.

Too many problem coins out there to put my money into them trying for a nice collection.
So I quit looking at RAW offerings anywhere.

  • ebay used to have a lot of non-dealer sellers that used a true auction format. I would say within the last 2 years, the dealer presence has gone from 60-95%, which makes looking for "deals" or fresh material a lot more difficult, and a lot less true auctions. Sometimes a well known dealer will throw a bone out, but ebay is not the place it used to be. I actually preferred the wild west days to some extent, but the buyer protection has increased, which is a +.

  • Hi, Try Scotsman auctions. Goldberg auctions also sells raw coins. And as far as Ebay use the auction only button, this shows auctions not the buy it now's.

I just consigned all raw coin with $1 starting reserve eBay with airplanenut from the boards. Raw coins are still out there, you just need to keep an eye open and recognize the scams.

Couldn't agree more. The fact that the forum is familiar (i.e., people know each other well, to a degree) pretty much induces a fairly decent level of self-governance. If someone decides to screw someone else over with a BST deal, that person can expect a really bad reputation to follow him around... making it pretty difficult for him to trade here, and at times, elsewhere.

Besides, people know their stuff here.

Same here, except replace 'error' with 'foreign.' Also, I sell a mixture of raw and slabs. But the point is the same. If you know how to manipulate the search engine you can still find great raw coins on eBay. At least half of my slabs were bought raw, and many of those on eBay (because most domestic shows have very few foreign offerings with the exception of bullion and I can't afford to travel abroad as often as I'd like). You just have to KNOW your series, be persistent, and be patient.

Tallpaul000 is right, too about the change in eBay in recent years. Especially since late 2011. It has made it much more difficult for me, as a seller on eBay, because buyers are becoming more scarce. I will probably close my "store" and go back to regular eBayer status if things don't change in the next 4-5 months.

Use your local resources such as coin shops, shows , auctions, clubs. Buying raw coins as a newbie is pretty risky- unless you are buying low value coins.

10hans5961 on Ebay is selling thousands of raw US coins. Overgraded, and many are
cleaned, but he gets strong prices. In the last year he has sold 4000+ raw coins, mostly 19th century.

He puts up around 300 every week now.

    Anyone buying these?
