Post An Attractive MS60!

The grade MS60 has a negative connotation, conjuring up mental images of an excessively abraded, poorly struck, dull, unattractive coin. I think this is probably generally true for a coin such as a Morgan Dollar.

However, I've seen other MS60-graded coins, particularly in the 19th Century gold issues, that were nice coins. I think that this recent purchase from Dalton Gold & Silver is such an example. It is part of my Ponderosa [Green Label] Carson City Type Set. The photo is courtesy of BluCC.

Please post your attractive MS60s!

GK, that is a very nice coin, and the grade is certainly worth Reconsideration, if you get my drift. image

I was thinking the same thing about the black hole known as MS60-62. In many cases I'd much rather have a nice AU58. Finding AU64s in AU58 holders is my favorite game to play at shows. You can get a ton of bang for your buck, especially with 1800s gold.

The 1830 half dime here is fantastic. Even though I can appreciate it, I'm not overly fond of the 1891-CC, but that's just my own bias (ignorance?) toward baggy gold of any sort. I suppose I got that from collecting mostly silver at first. A Walker with that many abrasions probably wouldn't grade at all. Give me time - I'll probably come around, and I wouldn't kick the 1891-CC out for eating crackers in bed.

Looking through my collection, I don't have a single piece in MS60. I have one MS62 shield nickel, nine coins in 58 holders (all gold), and three coins in 63.

Muted luster or not, I suspect that there is yet another reason you like it ..... such as R6 maybe?

    Nice half dimes.

I don't want to hog up this thread as I own a LOT of ANACS white chase holder MS60's.

1923-S Partial Collar ANACS MS60 - Graded when Anacs called all UNC errors MS60.

  • I have a difficult time grading New Orleans coins at times. This does include a recent MS60 that crossed the auction block. Let me see if I can figure out how to add images to this post. There looks like it's beginning to work. Disclaimer: I did not bid, sell, own, or anything related to these coins and the photos are 'borrowed' from Heritage and Coinfacts.

That is a nice coin - seems to be more than a 60 to me.

Cracked from a small white ANACs MS60 holder back in the late '80's and has resided in my Dansco 7070 since then.
I keep the sticker plastered in my album for posterity, I guess, but this coin stands on it's own merits (even if Liberty is seated image ):
