"tube" of mintmarks.

A really old (75+) coin collector was telling me at one time they used to sell little vials of mint marks. You could solder them onto coins and make your own "32-d quarter" or a "16-d dime".
Has anyone heard of such a thing?

i don't recall anyone ever talking about vials of mm being sold, but i have for sure heard of mm being glued, soldered, etc etc onto other coins and some dealers told me (that had strong fingernails) they used to be able to "pop" off mintmarks from coins they thought were suspect

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
