Great Collections.

How many here have used them? I just started to use them, and so far I like them.

Teletrade used to be my "go to" source for my collecting needs, but they recently upped the BP to 17.5%, and nixed the Tuesday no reserve auction. That, and some emails I sent them never getting answered, was the last straw for me.

I have used HA before, but find their site rather hard to navigate.

GC, what I like about them, the BP is only 10%, and they ship things out rather fast.

I used to use eBay, but there doesn't seem to be many auctions on there any more, seems like they all moved to buy it now.

Just to clarify ... I believe GC fee is 15% on coins under $1,000, not 10% when you add in the 5% sellers' fee that Teletrade does not have. So, "apples to apples" it is 15% vs. 17 1/2% on sub-$1,000 coins. Of course, in my opinion these fees are a "red herring" anyway
.. . you can have a company that has -0- buyers fee and the coins might still potentially cost more on the opening bid than a company with a 17 1/2% buyers fee and a lower opening bid. I was going to write an article on this and related auction topics (and have been asked to) but I would probably "piss off" too many auction companies and related folks if I wrote it.

Coinbuyer12 ... so you had some emails to Teletrade go unanswered? Who did you send them to over there?

I like the people behind GC as well. I find Ian and Rae to be among the hardest working people in the coin biz today. Then have done an impressive job with GC in the few years it has been opened for business.

As always, just my 2 cents.

I would also add that GC's settlement checks are easily the fastest in the biz.

Tiny: I do not understand your comment. Are you saying the sellers fee is 10% under $1,000? I said it was 5% under $1,000.

Does that help you understand Mitch?

I think it was exactly as I laid it out the first time Tiny. Under $1,000 coin is 15% buyers/sellers fees combined as compared to Teletrade's 17 1/2%.

Having experience with many, many, coin auction jurisdictions
since about 1990, I've found that Ian's "Great Collections," w/o
a doubt, offers the finest, for both buying and consigning coins,
    current premier operation.
  • I am pleased that Great Collections represents competition to Teletrade. Competition is good! And, it's great to see that it's possible for an auction house to survive with a 10% buyers fee. That 17.5% fee is bogus (Stacks, Heritage).

    Good luck, Ian!

Teletrade typically has had sellers fees too... just seems that for a "limited time" they have zero seller's fees according to their website.

I have consigned with Great Collections and everything was listed very quickly and each time an item sold a check was sent promptly. A few items in my consignment took quite awhile to sell. I'm sure I could have lowered my reserve, but I didn't. GC never pushed me to lower the reserve or to take my items back either. They just relisted the items every so often until every one of them was sold (one of them almost took a year to sell, but it did eventually!). Very painless and a professional service at all times.
