Hawaii 5 ounce ATB now sold out

I think there a better bet in the long run than the ‘s’ rolls. 15,000 is a small mintage. It seems like these are getting to be something like modern (not 90s) baseball cards where they produce low quantities of product; however there is an abundance of products in total.

Any thoughts on how these will do short and long term?

Unless the mintages decrease significantly, their value will probably remain flat or in step with silver.
Nevertheless I still buy 'em because I like they way they look.

The collectibility of these beyond that of bullion, remains tentative regardless of mintage.

While the pieces themselves are very nice looking, they are rather large and cumbersome. Slabs are the size of placemats and the general populace just doesn't seem to want to pay big premiums for them.

Besides, if these were really going to go anywhere, they'd have started the journey by now.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

We are like children who look at print and see a serpent in the last letter but one, and a sword in the last.

I think that's another issue/s with these. Trying to store 50 or more of these puppies is as you say "cumbersome".

For the collector the may work out to hold there value (more than can be said for most moderns) and low enough mintage to be slightly special.

Well, here it is a month later and the Hawaii "P" five-ouncer is bringing upwards of $500 on eBay. Not a bad return for a few months' investment.

The Acadia just went "backorder" with possibly a comparable mintage of ~15000. We'll get the preliminary total sales figures this week.

The rest of the 2012-P's are still available from the Mint at $230 each.

  • If I had bought any I would consider selling at these prices. I don't think the 15K mintage will help much in the end, since we should have several examples at about that mintage (look at the 1996 Olympic silver dollars).

I do think the Hawaii will always have a slight premium as graded SP70s of any of these lower mintage coins.
