2nd Annual Fun Show Experience

Everything was perfect! I arrived Tuesday morning and after getting settled in the hotel I went over to the convention center and my early bird ribbon was awaiting me... I had sent in a month earlier and the FUN staff greeted me with smiles... Makes it really easy and quick if you bring your old badge with the pic not to have to wait in line to just have a new pic taken... From there I was off to lot viewing for my interested series... I also went through over the next couple of days the Platinum Night lots... Some amazing stuff!
Had an awesome dinner that evening with some fine Gentlemen for a great prep for the week of festivities to begin... Some funny and cool stories were told as my face was starting to hurt... image
Wed. more lot viewing then mid day session one was on... Bidding was very strong for the cool stuff and weak for the not so cool as was expected... Early bird started late afternoon and did time ever fly... Right from the get go I was on the hunt and after a very quick run around met a good friend that had a Morgan I was hot on from last years show... All I can say is he knows how much I love collecting monster Morgan`s and was gracious to let go for my collection... This Morgan is absolutely without a doubt very special in both beauty and technical making it an outstanding MOOSE that will go somewhere into my AAA box... I haven`t had a Morgan make my AAA box for a few years now and this coin will bump my "Record Setter" Battle Creek Morgan which I have posted quite a few times down to my AA box... Once I get my trueviews back I`ll post that baby... Stopped by Bill and Christine`s table(Numismatic Americana) and as always they didn`t disappoint... He had a VERY high end Indian penny that was exactly a perfect representative of the kind of coins they carry... Also I stopped by HLRC and met Harry, Kelsey, and Dave... More awesome coins and Dave was interesting and loves talking coins... Walked the floor for a couple of more hours saying hi to everyone I knew and met a few more forum members for the first time and was nice to put a person to their handle finally...
Penny Lady had some awesome Indian pennies... What an upbeat personality and very quick was nice seeing her again... Right next store was Rick Snow from Eagle Eye what a pleasant and knowledgeable person and always has some outstanding pennies...
Next store to the both of them was Todd and his Dad who are always great to chat with and both are class acts... Todd was busy as usual taking coin pics and he has a very nice DMPL set growing which was a pleasure to see... I was running back and forth to his table to have coins imaged during the week as I came up with stuff... Also went by Legends table and had a quick chat and met Laura for the first time...She was professional and to the point... She was very busy so I didn`t stay long but was nice to meet her... Time flew by and was time to head to a very cool restaurant called Primo... Big Moose came up with the idea and TomB chauffeured us... Great food and great conversation...
Thursday ran into Shane(kyrptocomics) and was the first time we met face to face... I had just finished a coin deal on a very cool EOR Morgan and he recognized me and came over... We had a nice chat but was way to short so hopefully next time we`ll spend more time... From there I had 2 coins to submit to PCGS for upgrades and trueviews and one NGC that I wanted a crossover on... Stopped at the PCGS table and Don Willis went over the submissions with me and helped me access what I had and what I wanted to do... He was very knowledgeable and to the point and does he know his stuff... I can tell he has a true love for nice coins and is a collector at heart... What a very pleasant man and a real class act... Trista King took care of my 3 submissions and trueview orders... I was pleased with the out come... One coin stayed the same grade, one did cross at the same grade even though my order was to cross at "any" grade and lastly one received a plus... I am anxious to see the trueviews and then i`ll post them... From there I was back on the hunt and came up with 2 Indian pennies... One is a great upgrade to my set and a top pop and the other is a duplicate date but I had to have it... I can`t wait to get Todd`s image back of that and the other coins I had him take pics of... It has a very eye appealing multi toned iridescence...I also came upon Larry Shapiro from PQPeace and had a great chat... Larry always has some very nice coins... Covered the floor pretty well this day and before I knew it we were heading out to dinner... This time hooked up with TONEDDOLLARS, Toningintheblood, and a guy called crazy Mike... image Went to this steak house that was amazing and they came around with a huge platter before we ordered our steaks to see the cuts that we had to pick from... It was done to perfection and the trimmings were equally amazing... A great evening with some fun conversation...
Friday I walked the floor all day and again visited with some of the dealers and buddies... The PCGS Luncheon was very nice and good food... The restoration service sounds good and also the reconsideration service sounds good... And of course the $10,000 reward announcement for PCGS just to see a 64-D Peace Dollar... Then back to the floor and got to see some more very nice coins... Greg and Bonnie from Albanese Rare Coins had some amazing stuff... Greg`s collection of Commems is outstanding and spectacular to gaze upon... Had a very nice chat with Greg and Bonnie I believe never stops smiling... Came across an NGC MS69 Morgan that was in another thread... It was at a table attended by MFH and we finally met... He has some crazy nice dimes and set and that Morgan was very nice and glad I got to see it... No purchases this day however but I had a great time on the floor... Time for another dinner and BigMoose and Mike S who isn`t on the board but has some very top quality type coins and is a pleasure to chat with I hooked up with and back to Primo for another great meal and conversation...
Saturday said my good byes to BigMoose and TONEDDOLLARS and then back walking the floor... One of the highlights was seeing Larry Shephards personal Indian Cent collection... What an amazing set! Went by Pinnacles table and had a nice chat with Dan and Matt... Great guys and Dan knows nice coins... Then I was just walking along and something blazing caught my eye... Looked down and at a dealer that is just starting out here`s this amazing looking Buffalo Nickel... Has a pop factor of 12 on a scale of 1 to 10 and a great color of green to blue and some traces of gold in the low areas very evenly across both the obverse and reverse... It`s in a PCGS MS66 CAC holder and will make a great addition to my type set... Todd shot it for me so once I have the pics i`ll post the blazer... So my show is coming to an end and I was virtually heading out when 2 Indian cents came my way... Both are dates I need for my proof set and both are spot free beautifully toned eye appealing coins... The one I`ll post after the report as it`s a plate coin in coin facts as a PR65RB and a very tough date to find this nice and the other one I`ll post when I get the rest of my pics... That night I was really bummed as I had to actually pay for my very first dinner all week and sat by myself... Really every time I tried to grab for the check all week I was close to having an all out fist fight with someone... image
Well that`s about it... I`ll have a few coin pics in a few days... Hope I haven`t left too many people out and hope yousss enjoy my second show experience and the cool addition to my Indian set...

Sounds like you had a most excellent show experience!
Maybe next year I'll go the early bird route, which should allow me some extra time later in the week.

Thanks for stopping by our table, it was a real pleasure meeting you as well.
Your Morgans were fantastic and I enjoyed looking at them. The NGC Morgan
in MS 69 was on consignment to us. There were a lot of lookers but its an ex-
pensive toy in 69, so there were no serious offers.

We did sell a large quantity of mid grade circulated Barbers. I sold another Barber
    guru, a fantastic 1894-P in PCGS 64. CAC. ( as I remember ).

Thanks for stopping by, it was my pleasure having met you !

  • Thanks for the post. Great looking IHC, is that a PF-65 or a hammered MS?

Crazy Mike, have you ever met anyone like him before? What a classic. He walked around the restaurant like he owned it, and knew everyone's name. Turns out he walked in for the first time with us. Unless you experience him, you would never believe it.

AB bought some amazing coins as usuall. He sure does find them. In two days,12 hrs long, of walking, and walking and walking the floor I found two coins worthy of adding to my Proof Indian collection, both from Larry Sheppards and both tough dates for toners. The 1890 is a tad nicer than the 1909, but I am very happy with both.

I did not envy waynes trip home, something like 12-14 hrs of travel good luck.

bestclser hope you can make it next time...

Hey guitarwes long time no see...Hope you`ve been well and had a wonderful holiday season... Thanks for that and may need your naming expertise on a cool looking Morgan I picked up at the show that has what looks to be part of the seam with a small untoned area... As soon as I have the pics I`ll post it and give everyone a shot at the name...

Reading that reminded me of a kid going into a candy store after saving his allowance for months. Your enthusiasm is awesome.

Great pick ups and as usual and I'm still so jealous I couldn't make it. Major bummer for me. I missed the hanging out part with "the others" most of all and meeting new peeps as well.

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......

AB, it was great getting to spend some time with you on the bourse and at dinner. Crazy Mike collared me in the lobby one day as I was talking to Mike Rullo---he is extremely memorable! This FUN Show was one of the most enjoyable coin shows I can remember. The people, the coins, the food, and the Surf Expo right next door--need I say more? TomT.
