I've been looking for a pleasant, mid-grade 1894 Morgan dollar and came upon this one...

I like the look at want to throw up a bid but for the life of me cannot spot the repair NGC claims it has.
More seasoned eyes may do so thus this thread.

Anyone spot what I am missing?
(I thought possibly the darker area in the lower cheek- maybe a scratch removal or whatnot. Can't be certain.)

Looks like a repair on the reverse at NI in UNITED. Maybe it is a labeling error that
will pump that price sky high!

PS: I like the dollar just fine.

I don't see it. The bit of darkness on the neck might be a putty stain, but considering the toning on the right side of the coin it probably isn't.

I wonder if perhaps they meant to reference the scratch on the cap, but mis-coded the insert?

This is just my guess but if I had to think of something, I think the fields in front of Liberty's face may have been smoothed out. The lighter patina in that area doesn't quite match the darker color in the field behind Liberty.

For a problem coin that is extremely attractive. I don't see the obverse repair either, but I'm suspicious about the light areas around the N in ONE and UNITED.
    When in doubt, don't.

Maybe; this is what I was thinking too

If you go to the NGC website and look up the cert number and really blow up the obverse there might be
a repair to the rim at the bottom of the obverse, under the date.

    Possibly at 1 o'clock above the 'S'.

Scratch from the hair onto the hat might of been more pronounced at one time?

You may want to check hlrc.com for a very nice VF25 example for sale.

There's a 35 listed. I guess it depends on where the eBay one ends. I don't think I'd go much more than it already is.

    I can't tell either...
Might a note to the seller answer your question?

I don't think so. The seller has already said he can't see the problem.

I agree that it's probably about the obv scratch and a label typo.

Definately looks like a repaired spot on the neck to me.

The jaw line doesn't look right to me. Appears to be a little squared off and the dark tone/grit wrapping around the device seems to fade away somewhat under the jaw as well.

The absence of any distracting dings, hits, scratches, or obvious chatter on the coin, particularly in the cheek and fields could be a reason why there might be suspicion as to it being naturally worn without any "hits". Just a lay observation. I trust your eyes more than mine.

A cardinal mistake to think the graders at NGC, with coin in hand and the benefit of microscopes, would have wrongly detected a repair, if the extent of your knowledge is based on some ebay photos from the seller.

I think the NGC graders were looking at the P.

I also think better value in the `94 Morgans comes at the au58 level. I'd shoot for that.
