Price Guide Values

Are private sales of items that rarely change hands taken into account when establishing values for the PCGS price guide?

They are dealer sales reported to PCGS. Private sales, Ebay, etc typically are at 82% of those Price Guide Values.

There is a trust issue there.
If 2 collectors were to report an exchange of funds for a coin, how does one best reconcile this and make sure they are not trying to game the system with the guide value?
Of course, same could be said for dealers reporting sales.

To me, it is like some ebay auctions.......a coin goes for moon money, the price level is set, and the next time that coin, or a comparable one comes up, that price level is quoted....but did it really sell? And, did it really sell at that level?

I do seem to recall that there was a thread that suggested sales could be reported to Jamie Hernadez (I believe). Of course, he probably doesn't want to hear about those 200 individual sales of 2012 PCGS MS69 SAEs image

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

    In many cases, no

Private sales are not reported, only dealer sales are reported. Ebay sales are not
    reported either.

Exception might be dealer sales by big dealers on Ebay like Hess, etc, but probably not
even those as they would tend to depress the Price Guide Values.

Only dealer sales can be trusted. 2 dealers would never game the system like collectors would by reporting an erroneously high sale between them. image

Actually I think I remember seeing a post by Mr. Hall saying that collectors could contact them with private sales figures or mistakes in the prices in the price guide.
And eBay sales are tracked now I think.

Needless to say most private sales will not be reported as most will not take the time to do it.
