    I would, too.

    If it was a 58-D.

    Unfortunately it's a 38-D image

On second thought it still looks damn good for a 38-D.

  • How much do you think the opening bid will be? That might just turn your smile to a frown. imageimage

My guess is $300. to $500.

    wow...

  • Now I maybe wrong very wrong but some of the openings bids on TT are rather high on toned coins and
with a packaging error ya just don't know. I sure hope you can get it for a reasonable amount and you
didn't throw this auctions to the sharks by posting it here but I PROMISE I WILL NOT BID ON IT, I want it
    to be yours. image

  • Well shucks dare. Looks like it has a smart opening bid and I really missed judged that one.

    Very pretty coin.
    When in doubt, don't.

while the coin is nice, two things must be remembered:
    1. it was the first year of issue so the dies were fresh and a crisp strike on 1938 isn't that exceptional.
    2. during the initial years of Jefferson production the Denver Mint had the best strikes, period.

now, on to the tone. I have seen quite a few 1938's(P/D/S) with wonderful, pearl-esque color, probably from extended storage in folders, albums and kraft envelopes as new issue coins. you know the tone I mean, right, the kind that floats on strong luster?? it does have smooth fields telling me EDS but nothing to go crazy over. my prediction(and I've been wrong before) is that the coin is really a 66+ and will sell for around $100.

-----the big question is this, is the right coin in a holder with the wrong date or is the insert correct and the coin placed in the wrong holder altogether??
