Huge price realized for 1899-O micro 'O' Morgan

  I was following this one. There were 7 bidders as of $10000, and 9 when it closed, which means at least 3 bidders interested at or above $10000. All of the 1899-O Micro Os are rare in BU, with fewer than 5 specimens each (PCGS, NGC, ANACS combined), and of the 5 different varieties, VAM 32 is the rarest, based on numbers in the SSDC registry. There's some big money chasing some of the big ticket VAMs.

  Apparently, the PCGS MS64 1899-O micro 'O' (VAM 5) that brought $7800 plus juice in a 2012 Teletrade auction was a REALLY GOOD deal!

  It sure looks like it. The VAM 5 is not as rare as the VAM 32, and the recent sale may have just raised the value of that coin. Mind you that everyone at FUN I spoke with was shocked about this sale, and the market is not exactly huge at the top, but it would appear that any pop-top 1899-O Micro O is going to go for some really big $.

  Wonder what the PCGS MS65+ 99-O micro 'O' (VAM 5) condition census coin pictured on PCGS Coin Facts would sell for in auction?

  This most recent Micro-O price at Heritage is a record for any Micro-O VAM in any grade -- by a mile. The previous record we know about at VAMview was $8,970 for a PCGS-64 (VAM number not specified on holder) that sold on Teletrade in May 2011.

  When in doubt, don't.
