1957 Mint Set. Leave it alone or brake it up ?

I got this 57 Mint Set Friday at FUN and I think I want to send in a few of the coins to be
graded. Should I leave it be or break it up and if brake it which ones should I send it. Hope
the pictures ae good enought to tell.

I like it as a set. I think original mint sets from the 50's will be really tough to find 10+ years down the road.
I've been stocking nice ones away now for quite a while.
Do you have the mailing envelope as well?

Is your WB off in the last image or are those cents actually bright yellow? image

    Cool set image

Leave it alone. Nice as a set

I think this is a really nice original looking set that should be kept as is. No single coin color wise pops out as a candidate for grading. But as a whole it's a nice set with some color. image

  • I do have the envelope with it from Ohio. I have noticed that most mint sets and a few more than
half proof sets come from up north. I was talking to the dealer I bought this one and a 49 & a 53 but
they are just very orginal with little color, trying to complete a full run of US Mint Sets and he told me
that the northerners back then had more time and money than us poor ole sotherners and with nothing
to do in the winter except shovel snow they would order Mint coins and collect these sets. He told me
that he buys alot of collections and they are mostly from ladies sine they stay home while the men work.
Interesting, very interesting. He also had a funny or rather sad story about an estate he looked at where
the owmers took the set like these and cut the cards in half and split them up like that. image Oh My!

The cents are not quite the shinny gold looking but rather a deep looking gold. If Lincoln wasn't on the
obverse you would think if was a very nicely toned gold coin.

    Keep it intact.

I think you should keep it intact unless you feel so strongly that one or more of the coins are special and will grade high, a fact I doubt based on the images.
  • I don't see anything color wise I would send in and there is no way to grade from the photo's so unless you feel there is a top pop coin in the set I would leave it alone.
