Question for the board members,

what would you think is a fair semi-retail price to pay for a 1941-S half dollar in 65. The coin is well, not fully struck, brilliant, and extremely lustrous. this questions assumes that the coin is "all there" for the grade. And is in a first tier TPG holder. My thoughts are somewhere between $500.00-$600.00, as the coin will never be a "now or never coin". What say the board members, Thanks.

  • Heritage has like 500 of these in their archives. None were sold lower than $500.
  • do you like it?

If it fills your criteria $750.00 to $850.00, it's the key in high grade for the late date short Walker set.

So it is even less scarce than I thought, 500 appearences makes it common,(IMO). I knew it was never RARE but the commoness of most us coins is really keeping prices in check,IMO. With the internet age there is no hiding this fact. I remember 30-35 years ago, when the collecting community thought this was a rare bear in unc, all you ever looked at was the REDBOOK, I think this is part of the reason that prices have not moved much for the Key,semi-key dates in the last 15 years. At least as far as coins minted in the last hundred years. I am saddened that the 09-Svdb for example is so easy to obtain, when I was a kid I thought you you had to be really lucky, and well financed to aquire one of them.(I have learned you only need finances). It has been like finding out that there is no santaclause.

<< <i>do you like it? Yes I do it is a really nice example. But as with anything, I dont want to pay 25-40% less than I can sell it for if need be,tomorrow. I am thinking of offering $540.00, It is listed at $600.00. I think that is a fair offer.Do you?

Putting those out on the forum is frowned upon by the powers to be.

Unless it jumped at me with quality I'd wait for one that did. You seem unsure, hence the thread. Advice = pass.
