Scarce coin, but nowhere near $750 scarce. PCGS has graded 17 of those in Poor-01.
    When in doubt, don't.

I like how the description mentions "An affordable example...".

Just what would an unaffordable example be then?

  • How can they tell it's a 1921? If it wasn't slabbed, I'd never believe it.

Probably the high relief. Though at PO01, I'm not sure what relief is left. "Seek relief" when buying, I guess.

I expect there are more P01 1921's than other dates due to the high relief. You can identify them w/o the date.

    How the game is played:

First create excitement over something that you can have a market in.
    Then Promote promote promote
    Then smile smile smile

Yes I am talking about the low-ball market.

I wish I still had the awfully worn condition 1909-S V.D.B. penny I found when I was a kid.

It took great imagination to figure out the last two digits of the date, whether it had a mint-mark or if it had any letters of V.D.B. showing.

That coin would be worth a fortune in today's market. image

low ball registry coins bring big money in some circles, personally, i cant understand the attraction, but then again, i cant yet figure out why people spend so much money on plastic either

Yeah, I know- hence my amazement at the price tag. For $750 I can snatch an excellent MS64 of that coin. At least this coin wasn't in a "Doily" holder... I couldn't imagine the price tag..

The few who collect this stuff will probably tell you the other two collectors have one. image
