I want to send in a few coins for a regrade, they currently have a trueview photo attached to them. What happens when they get assigned a new cert number?
A few PCGS customer service are confused about the policy so it depends on who you talk to at PCGS.
Trista (a top-notch Customer Service Manager) will tell you that you can have the original TrueView photo transferred to the new Cert Number (on a regrade).
However other PCGS Customer Service Reps might tell you that you cannot transfer old TrueView photos to the new Cert Number on a regrade and will insist that you pay an additional $10 per coin for a new photo.
I would ask for Trista to handle the request and be sure to specify on the PCGS Submission form that your coins have existing TrueView photos and you would like them transferred to the new Cert Number on the Regrade.
If you don't say anything or specify anything on your submission form about the old TrueView photos, those original photos will disappear from the database when PCGS wipes out the old cert numbers (although I bet they could restore the photos after the fact, but it will take more phone calls or emails).
I did this and got a trueview with the new number. Interestingly, the photo was new too (colors slightly different) although I'm not sure that will always be the case.
I think we need Don Willis to straighten this out officially for PCGS. This is an issue that needs his attention so we all know the PCGS position on this issue.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.
