Regarding First Strike

My friend and I were debating on why first strikes are so valuable vs non first strikes and he made an interesting point. I was wondering if anyone can help shed some light into this. Bear in mind we are talking only modern coins.

He claims its the label, if you take the coins out its the same exact coin. My argument was that it is because the first batch of coins are probably the best because it was the first to get struck with the new label. His argument was doesn't matter when a coin looks good then it looks good. He claims that while first strike may have been important a long time ago when not every coin was near great quality and diminishes as they are struck, nowadays the technology is too good he thinks it wouldn't matter in the future because they would all be near perfect.

I dunno does he have a point? I still feel like First Strikes are better but his reasoning makes me question a little.

Your friend is correct and you are in err.
Once you understand how many coins can be minted, per die, and how many dies are used, etc, you will begin to understand why he is correct.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

"First Strike" is a brilliant marketing concept that has been expertly executed by our hosts. The market likes it and pays more for it therefore, at present, it is relevant. In the future, who knows. As for the quality of the coins, there are a LOT of fabulous quality coins in non-FS labeled holders. Bottom line, there are some collectors who are willing to pay more for FS and others who won't. I personally don't think you can draw any conclusions on quality related to the label.

Thank you very much for your feedback. I was starting to think my argument was retarded as well once I thought about it haha. =) don't plan on selling my coin investments just keeping (hope kids don't either), so first strike doesn't make sense to me anymore as it used to.
