How much do the rim dings and other damage detract from a pretty darn looking coin for the grade?

I too do not like th rim dings.
Other than that - nice coin with great contrast
Great looking coin otherwise.

You're kidding...right??!!?
It would be interesting to hold it in hand and see how much that particular scrape jumps out at you.
Otherwise, it's got the primo look for a circ, in my opinion. A nice CircCam. I think that compensates for the chatter, but it's a tough choice whether or not the hits are a dealbreaker. Me personally, I would find it acceptable if it slabbed, and have second thoughts only if they Gennied or bodybagged it. Of course, if I were doing a 7070 collection, I'd unhesitatingly put that in my album, and the nicks might not even show.

Actually, looking at the zoomed image of the most egregious hit, it doesn't look too deep, and I think somebody with the right skills COULD tool down that area somehow. If they did it discreetly enough (no belt sander, but a fine Dremel attachment, perhaps), and didn't leave too big a flat area, and then retoned the work site, it could be OK. It's not on any focal design areas.
Far more ambitious work has been done on certain ancient coins without being considered "dishonest" tooling. I mean, look at some of the expert plug jobs that have been done on coins like Bust dollars. Ever seen a really good one? I have. By comparison, "fixing" that one little mark shouldn't be too difficult, nor should it be considered particularly nefarious doctoring.

I did not bid on this coin, but was struck by its authenticity and overall appearance for the grade (sans dings).
IMHO, If the reverse ding could be made less obtrusive, it would make a nice entry into a 7070 album or simply as a pocket piece.
