Last chance Mint products....2011 W Uncirculated Silver Eagle

A few products end sales by the end of the year. I noticed the 2011-W Uncirculated Silver Eagle has individual sales of 309,194. With the addition of the 100,000 examples from the 25th Anniversary Silver Eagle Set, the prelim total of 409,194 would be the lowest mintage for a uncirculated Silver Eagle with the W mint mark.

Anyone think this coin will get more attention value wise or do you think the other 2011/2012 Eagles will overshadow this due to the reverse proofs and S mint marks etc?

I think that baseballcardization of SAEs, with so many different issues and packaging options, has jaded all but the most dedicated SAE collectors/investors.

I agree with RYK. The dilution of available collector funds between so many varieties and multiple set issues is a continuous drag on collectors.

There is cannibalisation of demand going on, so it's hard to say what low mintage is going to be required before a scarcity premium will come back into play. A mintage of 410,000 probably won't do it, especially since some new lower mintage "instant rarities" have been issued recently: the 2011 Reverse Proof, the 2011-S and the 2012 Reverse Proof.

At some point, people start to realize that ordinary bullion is a better investment, (and investment is a large part of the collector bullion segment). We may be at that point right now.

I think the only affect might be on the 2006-W unc issue might drop in price.

    Or all of the above....

I love SAE's but even my loyalty has been tested, certainly don't get as excited as I used to by the Gov. issues...
BTW, a TRUE collector and NOT a flipper speaking.
