The Indian Head Quarter Eagle/Half Eagle Designs

giorgio11giorgio11 Posts: 4,285 ✭✭✭✭✭
So I have often wondered exactly what are those things just below the bottom headdress feathers on the obverse. They look to me like three shark's teeth or some such, hanging from a necklace around the Indian's neck. But I've never seen an "official" description by the designer, or by any of the pundits of the day pro or con (William Sturgis Bigelow pro, S.H. Chapman con, among others). I even went so far as to look in Vermeule's Numismatic Art in America to see if he named or described them. Nada. Anybody know for sure what they "officially" are?

Best Regards,

George

Well that makes a lot more sense than shark's teeth, given the shape. Thanks CaptH and Merry Christmas!
