Which photo do you like best? I think I finally nailed getting pictures down (after 10 years!)

On the advice of a photo pro I purchased a 35mm 2.8 Lens for my SLR Nikon.

I adjust the ISO to 100.

The only difference between these 2 pictures is the distance I took them from. One is about 9 inches and the other about 18 inches. Which do you like better?

Generally, more distance from the coin yields better pix. You're able to get more, and direct, light on it.

I would have opted for a macro lens for coin photography.

The one on the left is better

Well, obviously if you want a better idea of what the coin looks like, then the 'left' photo is a no-brainer!
It shows more color and is in slightly better focus than the photo on the 'right'.

Now, to say that you "nailed" either photo is an overstatement IMO. Neither photo is particularly great.
But, we all started where you are now and slowly improved our photo taking methods through trial and error.
Suffice to say though, both photo's are well out of focus.

Keep playing around and you will improve with time!

the one on the left is the closer picture.

this is the teletrade lot. Coin is 100X nicer than those pictures.

Never realized how much the eagle here looks like the one on the dollar

I always wonder if comments made on this forum led to the adoption of the thin transparent prongs?? You were able to do the image and show feeding. Nice

One is sharper, the other better reflects the true color and feel of the coin. I want to figure out how to get both.
