My daughters, who are in second-and third-grade, asked me today why someone would do this.

We're fine, we're about 20 miles southeast of Newtown and have good friends who live there, but thankfully their kids attend a different school.

I have two boys the same age as the victims, and I cannot fathom what the children and their families endured today.

Horrific. I am so saddened by this. I raised three daughters and it breaks my heart to think of losing any. Those poor families.

    From my Facebook page:

It sure is scary to think we live in a world where monsters roam free in society and pray on the innocent. To all you psycho's out there...if your depressed, misunderstand, have no friends, weren't loved as a kid and think the world is a terrible place then by all means take you own life. You do not have the right to take someone else's life, especially precious little kids in an Elementary school. I only wish they could have revived the shooter and put him in a room with those grieving parents....my heart goes out to everyone affected by this tragedy as I can not imagine the anguish and despair of losing one of my children.

Every parent on Facebook today should hold their babies close tonight as you just never know when the next senseless act of violence will take place. I am not a praying man so those who have faith...please please please pray for those souls that just entered heavens gates and also for their love ones left behind to grieve.

I believe "Longacre" is from Newtown.

Even here in the Hartford area, 75 miles away, schools are making grief counselors available to schoolchildren.

Somebody came in to the shop today saying what had happened, I wasnt aware of it, when I got home I saw the extent.

My heart just hurts thinking about the innocent victims especially the kids. I just cant imagine, I have three with two still in school.

This is beginning to happen way too often, something has to be done to rid the sicko's and crazies from this world.

My heart goes out to the families and all the people in the area. Such a tragedy.

I have NEVER been able to figure out how one person could get that many shots off before being stopped?????

Like the college a few years ago when the gumman "RELOADED" and wasn't stopped.

I guess they need to start having guns in the room for the good guys and train them how to use them.

This can't go on with no changes......we all know it WILL happen again.....we just don't know when or where!!!

It's a very saddening day. And what disgusts me is that the anti-gun idiots are already trying to make some sort of political hay out of it.
A properly trained armed security officer or school official could have potentially ameliorated if not outright prevented this tragedy.

Right after I visited my kids' school today and got back to work I heard about this tragedy. I gave my boy a big hug before leaving the school. I feel so bad for the parents that will never have this opportunity again. Sad.

Thanks so much for this post. I was going to post a similar thread but was afraid that it was too OT. I'm glad that you did.

What the parents are going through is literally unimaginable.

Give your kids an extra hug tonight. Who knows what tomorrow brings.

May G-d bless the victims, their families, the other kids at the school and all of the first responders.

They are all in mine and my wife's thoughts and prayers.

May all of those beautiful kids play forever in a life eternal with G-d.

    amen,

wouldnt mind spending my tax $ to protect the well being of kids in school and others in places in public by hiring security staff at every school in the country, govt needs to quit wasting money on bullsht and put it to use in something good like this.

Thank the Lord my kids go to a different school in town. We are saddened by the loss of life and knew some of the victims. It is a terrible tragedy. Please pray for the community which is an incredibly sleepy town.

The principal was raising five kids.

If our nation doesn't get shaken to its core I don't know how this stops.

CNN published a list today of mass killings in the last 20 years. We are so numb, most people could not recall more than a few of them.

I was in a theater watching the Hobbit when it happened, when I got out ( 2 pm ) I could tell by the
radio something was wrong and it happened within the state but did not mention where and
that 30 min ride home was scary cause I know a lot of people with kids in school.

I do not know anyone who suffered losses but I see so many affected. Being so close
you can hear others little ones asking questions no parent wants to try and answer and
you can see the fear in peoples faces, its so sad.

My prayers go out to those whom have lost loved ones due to this tragedy.

Very sad as we live 30 min out from Newtown, guys. My son's friends all graduated from Newtown High and many of their families were friends with those effected in one way or another. I have a very deep tie to this incident more than anyone here more than likely and I just want to let you all know how affected I am from this incident, extremely sad and a very somber day of mourning for us all as a family.

<< <i>200,000 good men could be hired tomorrow to protect the 200,000 schools there are in the great USofA. Wouldn't you voluntarily support that if a bill came up. Think of what could have changed if there was a great security guard at that school....far less would have perished. >>

I don't think one security guard per school is enough, especially if someone has a gun and has planned out the attack. Nevertheless, I do support the sentiment that more security and financial support should be provided to our schools. I would be willing to pay higher taxes for it.

The events today are truly tragic and my thoughts and prayers go out to all of those affected. I cannot fathom how it must feel to lose a child.

i can`t express how i feel let alone how these families must feel. my heart goes out to all those involved. i live about 10 miles away from that school. when this news broke this morning the mayor of my city locked down all schools and called in the evening shift police to cover schools. my granddaughter is in first grade and my daughter called the school to find out if she could come get her. she was told no, the school is in lockdown. this is a good thing. the bad thing was my local hospital scrambled 4 trauma teams for the ER but there was so few survivors transported to the hospital. i pray for the families that lost someone.

My daughter , who is 27 with a 5 and 4 y old called me crying. I said, "honey, you know we have already , as a people, aborted 60 million babies since your dad graduated from high school in 1973 ? She said, "Oh my God ". I said, " This news of killing always makes me want to cry". Always.

I told her "let's pray". So we did, and we do. Always.

1 of our best friends is an aid at that Newtown school. We worried about her until we found out she was ok, she doesn't work on Friday. She was home just waiting for the list of her deceased students and fellow workers.....

i thought about this yesterday , having specific people be allowed to carry concealed even at schools, if something did break out you might not be able to protect everybody , but you could certainly do a part in stoping a mass attack like this one. I know several people on the news are already talking about gun rights, and laws, but the problem is , the people who want to do harm always seem to be able to get the guns. Laws wont stop people from flipping out and going on mass shootings.

Sometimes people you least expect , flip out. Last year locally a well known, highly respected business man with years in the community, flipped out and went home hunted down his family and killed them all , which including chasing his daughter into the attic with a gun, and killed her while she was on the phone with her grandmother begging for help.

I dont know any of the family members or even anyone from that area in conn, but I just could not sleep last night thinking about how horrific this was, thinking about what the kids went thru

I think teachers and principals should be allowed to carry concealed weapons with training and oversight. They should be paid extra for doing so. In Israel, if a terrorist tries something, there are 20 people with guns there before the police arrive and often they have taken care of the shooter themselves. Why did the Lanzas have 6 guns between them? I would like to know that...

I have seen a lot of horrible things in my life but this has got to be the worst..... unthinkable.

All I can do is pray for these children and their families. Nothing will bring them back.

I just can't imagine someone with absolutely ZERO sense of HUMANITY who could do this to innocent little babies.
