Occassionally, I put a few old, crusty, culled IHCs out there. The look on the clerk's face when I walk away is priceless; especially if it's a kid.

    Cheers,

    Bob

If you're handing out trimes, double-dimes, half cents, 3 cent nickels or any gold, please tell me where I should go before you get there. I'm particularly fond of territorial gold. image

There's a guy at one of the local coin clubs that keeps bringing rolls of circulated wheat cents to sell in the club auction, almost always worn coins from the 1950s. No one seems to want them, but I usually buy them because if I don't, he'll just bring them again to the next month's auction and try again. I figure they are only $1 per roll, sometimes up to $2 per roll, depending on what he chose for his reserve price.

I try to spend them when I need a few extra cents to make exact change. I probably put a roll of wheat cents back into circulation per month doing that and I figure it's worth it in the hopes that maybe a few kids have gotten them back in their change.

Not obsolete, but I like the 2012 native Amr. dollars. Bought some for the kids to have, and am spending the rest.

I put a few rolls of Buffalo nickels into circulation every year.

Putting worn buffalo nickels, IHC's, wheat cents, etc. back into circulation is probably the most cost effective method to promote the hobby. I love the idea.

About a month ago I went through the Dunkin' Donuts in Orrington, Maine. I ordered my french vanilla coffee for $1.99. Got my coffee and one cent in change. It was an 1896 Indian Head Cent. I know, I know... unbelievable but true.image

...unfortunately these aren't available at face from the bank like the prez bucks were. image

I spend cents and nickels every day. Considering their value in relation to the cost to manufacture them, they are most certainly obsolete. It wouldn't surprise me if the government stopped making them sometime next year.

Calling clad obsolete already is a definition I did not expect to see used.
