<< <i>Prior to joining this board I think I read every book he had out. I always found it curious to why he is seldom mentioned here, anyone? >>
I always found the books of his that I've seen to be pretty superficial and investment oriented.
Check out the Southern Gold Society
Please mark January 2nd on your calendars and let me know if you will be attending.

I would love to attend. Can you ask Mr. Travers what time he will send the limousine to pick me up at my condo ?

Maybe you can bring some of your stunning copper pieces with you so that Scott and I can discuss them over dinner, my treat (likely "regional Italian", as in a new Italian restaurant right near North Shore HS where the meeting is)
As to the topic, don' t know as yet since he only agreed to give his talk on Thursday.
Anyone else coming?
Guess not much of a web person as his site has not been updated since somestime in 2010 or earlier well since thats the date on the book he is selling coin values 2010.Text

Because most of the advice given out although is sound advice falls in line with conventional wisdom. Nothing Earth shattering revealed.

That is a tempting thought, but it is a bit out of my local area. I no longer drive to my local clubs after dark.
If you get a chance, ask him if he remembers Herb Hicks and the Framingham Coin Club (now defunct). He probably remembers us as a bunch of old fogies who weren't too interested in trading with him or any other dealer.
I agree. Also, Travers is a very good speaker and his talks to coin clubs tend to be geared towards collectors, not investors.

C'mon, TDN. Recognize that your level of participation in our hobby far exceeds the coin club level.
Ten years ago I read "Options Trading as an Investment Strategy", which was interesting. The math was cool, if over my head in many ways, and the overall approach was quite useful in understanding the scheme of things in that area. Wanna discuss deltas, betas, IO's, PO's, CDO's CDS's? Knew enough (albeit superficially) about von Neumann and heuristics to see some of the traps. For me, So I ran like hell. I'm still better at math than the late Paul Ryan, but I would be gambling against Goldman Sachs, who has demonstrated an ability to finagle both sides of a trade, automated of otherwise. The game was too chancy.
"Where the rubber meets the road" too many people are still getting screwed. Some by grading, some by optimistic investment hopes and hypes. And they are running like hell.
Any informed attempt to offset this trend is worthwhile. I'll bet this presentation will be of benefit to the intended demographic. I doubt the Cardinal Collection will be discussed as an exemplar of collecting interest.
It's one thing to gasp. It's more useful to grasp.
thanks,
Dave
