I had to sell my 1916-d Mercury
Hi, Just sitting around today thinking about what I did a few days back. I had to sell a few coins this last week as I had surgery yesterday and needed some cash to help pay for the operation. The coin was PCGS graded au details tooled but was a beautiful coin with a small tool mark on the reverse where a spot or something was removed before I got the coin.I wish I could have kept the coin but sometimes you just need to sell. Knowing that selling does not make it any easier. So I will be on the forum a lot as I will be not allowed to do anything for the next six weeks, Doctors orders. P.S. For all you Canadian silver dollar collectors out there I got the grades back on the silver dollars I sent in to PCGS. All these coins were ICCS graded when I sent them in. The 1945 came back UNC details cleaned, 1947 Blunt 7 AU details cleaned, 1947 pointed 7 AU details cleaned, 1947 Maple leaf MS61 and the 1948 MS62. Is it common to have ICCS coins that have been cleaned? Thanks, Jim

I am hoping to spend quite a bit of time on the forum as I will be doing not much for the next six weeks, Doctors orders. The forum is the only place out here I can talk coins. We have three coin shops in Rapid City, SD but I will not step foot in any of them. I am a strong believer in coin club, ANA, Central States and our local club, Black Hills Coin And Stamp Club and I WILL NOT SPEND ONE RED CENT in any coin shop that will not support the local coin clubs who's mission is to promote the hobby that the coin shops make their living from. We put on two coin shows a year with table fees at $50 per table and none of the Rapid City coin shops will even take a table. I grew up in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. and there the local coin shop was very involved with the coin shows. Gary's coin shop in Wisconsin was a local meeting place where collectors came to sit and B.S. about coins all day long over a cup of coffee or soda. Nowadays the dealers seem to want to buy scrap gold or silver and collector coin have taken a back seat. I believe this will hurt the dealers in the long run as soon as the metals are no longer so high price and collector coins are king again. When a dealer treats me like Sh*t at his shop or at a show I do remember that for a very long time. Have to stop for now. Jim
And happy to hear you're following Doctors orders to take the time to heal up. It's super important!

As for your question about ICCS coins grading as cleaned by PCGS, you may want to post it over on the Darkside (Foreign coin) forum.
There are a number of Canadian coin buffs over there. Generally ICCS is very conservative in their grading, so I'm a little surprised you had
problems crossing.

I was surprised also, then I started to wonder if the coins were cleaned after grading.
