I received my coin today from the east coast to the Pacific coast, and it took 7 days via Registered mail. Slow but secure. I will be submitting it for a possible + grade, but I'll wait until the show. I just don't like my coins out of my possession.

maybe 5 right now are known plus 1 more that went through anaheim not addressed to pcgs?

I guess someone wants Christmas cash.
(speaking of which: anyone find ridiculously low priced coins for BIN on eBay lately?) >>

This is one of those not addressed to pcgs...

I have off and on again read the thread and if it hasn't been pointed out before I must say hand delivery at a show does sound like a nice option.

Tommy, sorry for the loss, it might be a long shot but I hope they turn up.

To whomever said he needs to just get over it, terrible comment, please go jump in a lake. He is trying to get over it, it just takes time.

Took a week for mine to show up. They were listed on the submission page Tuesday after being mailed one week prior.

    << <i>Good Afternoon Everyone,

My name is Corbin and I'm working in the PCGS Customer Service Department. When you send your valuables over to PCGS, we recommend that you ALWAYS send your packages Registered Mail. That is by far the most safest method when sending us your items. This recommendation is listed in both our FAQs and point 11 on the back of our submission forms. If your package has indeed been lost in the mail, you should definitely report the lost package to your local Post Office. Additionally, you should also click on this link, https://postalinspectors.uspis.gov/forms/mlntrcvd.aspx, and fill out a report with the US Postal Inspection Services. PCGS, undoubtedly, cares about each and every one of our customer's packages; however, it appears that you are having problems with the U.S. Post Office and not PCGS. Until we actually receive your coins, we are not responsible for your packages in transit to us. We here at PCGS sincerely hope that each and every one of your packages are found.

    My Best Regards,

    Corbin >>

Thank you for the info Corbin. Can you verify that PCGS ALWAYS returns items with a recipient signature required? At least for those who get valuable packages dumped on their doorstep or in their rose bushes, they might have some recourse against their lazy/negligent mail carrier.

Whenever PCGS ships any of our customer's valuables back on our account for USPS, we ALWAYS send it Signature Required. If your mail carrier indeed leaves your package unattended and without a signature, you should definitely notify your local USPS office. It is the responsibility of the mail carriers to receive a signature when dropping off your packages, since we ALWAYS send them Signature Required.

Frankly I don't understand why there would be any antipathy against PCGS for your shipment not arriving there. They have absolutely no control whatsoever over the submitter's free will choice of shipping, nor do they have any control over USPS or how they handle items shipped to them. The whole argument that PCGS isn't being "proactive" enough is flat out silly. As shown earlier in this thread, PCGS clearly recommends shipping via Registered Mail. How much more proactive can they be? If someone chooses not to read or, more likely, to ignore that advice, then cheaps out and uses some other method it certainly isn't PCGS' fault.

Some people are all about instant gratification and can't stand how long Registered Mail takes to arrive...and sometimes by choosing a different method, end up paying heavily for their impatience.

While priority mail doesn't mean a signature won't be required, it isn't an assurance that the package will arrive at its destination. I'd think that the same security concerns should apply to both directions. If 1tommy's ordered had been graded, returned, insured for $5K and lost in transit would he rather have the coins or the $$$?

I once had a registered package take 30 days to go about 1000 miles here in the U.S.

I think a donkey would have been faster!

The one thingI really dislike about Registered mail is there is no tracking (or at least not useful tracking) ... that is, you can't tell on their tracking website where the package was last.

Registered Mail gets an entry when it checks in ... then the USPS website never updates until the package is delivered

With regular tracking, you can see all the stops and get some idea where the package is at any given moment.

I start looking for the number to be entered into the system prior to me mailing the package. Why start after the package is mailed? The thrill of victory whenever it arrives and the agony of defeat whenever the grades are posted.

That's because [as part of the secure nature of the service] they don't want you to know where it is or where it is going enroute to its final destination. Makes it hard/harder to scheme to steal it, no?

Then it would behoove PCGS to return same by an equally secure method, no? Unless you opt out, PCGS should return your coins by registered mail. I think most submitters probably value their coins more than they would the insurance check they'd get if the stuff was lost.

Seems like every time we have one of these threads, there are any number of posters who still remain clueless about the various service levels offered by the USPS.

Absolutely! Then we can have even more "Why is it taking so long to get my coins?" threads in addition to the "Why is PCGS charging so much more for shipping now?" threads that would be sure to be posted once PCGS raised their rates to cover the additional labor and postage expenses involved with Registered Mail. image

Does shipping Priority Mail with the Registered Mail Service speed the delivery of the package?

I usually send Registered Mail via First Class and it can take a week or more to cross the country. I'd pay the extra several dollars to send it registered/PM if it would get there in 2-3 days.

Well, as stated in Tom's thread about missing boxes to PCGS, here, I had sent a submission to PCGS on Thurs Dec 6th, dropped off and accepted at 3:43pm...small box Priority. DELIVERED today, the 8th, at 8:43am. Not even 2 full days from Boston to Newport Beach, CA...BUT, it bypassed Anaheim, as did a package to Teletrade, in the linked thread. I'm calling 'shenanigans' on Anaheim, and I'd imagine heads are gonna roll . I've never had a submission go to Bells Garden, CA, prior to getting to PCGS. I hope it's USPS being proactive, or at least working the problem with PCGS.

    edit to spell Boston correctly
    I'll come up with something.

From what I understand, they just popped a mail employe for stealing coins at the Anaheim PO. A couple of members at least. The coins are now being held as evidence. I am glad to hear that some people will be able to retrieve their coins, eventually.

This is still an ongoing investigation and some coins have been recovered(Mine have Not) they still hope to find out more so NO Details at this time....................I will say being Proactive in this case did matter and for all those who said oh just give it time, wrong answer, that just allows the thief or thieves more time. If you have that gut feeling that something is wrong act on it. I do want to thank Sandy Boyd at pcgs for helping ALL those who have lost packages in the past 2 1/2 months and staying on top of this problem, and to the USPS investigation team Nice Job.............Also wanted to say thanks to Bubblehead who is a member here and reported his coins missing RIGHT Away, his coins have been recovered and because of his prompt reporting this case may soon see a resolution and hopefully some jail time for those who are responsible.........Enjoy image
