<< <i>Why would irreplaceable coins be sent other than by registered mail? >>
All my previous submissions were what I now realize were collectables, meaning they could have all been replaced with money, these were my first 2 that I now realize were Priceless, No amount of money coming back from pcgs insured for 5 grand or before would have replaced them and thats the difference I should have realized. Some coins that take years to locate are priceless and to find them raw makes them more special. I still have a glimmer of hope that tomorrows phone call will be they found it, and I have learned a few lessons when it comes to shipping. Appreciate all the well wishes and the link to the postcard was funny and yes I am just trying to occupy my time till monday. Enjoy
Well Just got off the phone with the newport office and asked if the other packages misplaced were to pcgs and was told yes, now I have to wonder if our host knows about this. I wonder if I need to cancel credit card as the numbers were on the order form. Suppose to call the supervisor after 6am my time tomorrow and hopefully find out more. Knowing that the other packages missing were to our host does not leave me with a warm fuzzy feeling anymore. He said they did not scan my insurance sticker in anaheim, like they were suppose to do..............tomorrows a new day. Enjoy
<< <i>I always answer yes to fragile. In fact I get asked that question even when I presented a package and say it's fragile. >>
I used to always answer "YES!" to '...potentially hazardous?'
Then the clerk gets all alarmed and I say, " There exist only a few things that are NOT potentially hazardous... the package contains paper, some coins, etc..."
(yes, I know I need not specify coins). "Someone could receive a paper cut handling this package. And the coins could present a choking hazard to small children!"
But after a while, you get tired of it and just say NO.
Tommy, my best wishes for a happy outcome. It's always so difficult to be in this position of worry and butterflies in the stomach with the unknown situation. I would actually in thinking this through take some slight encouragement that there was more then just your package to our hosts "missing" at the same time.
Under the situation where they were internally stolen by a PO employee, then the fact it is multiple packages and Anaheim/Newport Beach PO are now aware, along with our hosts who I am sure have followed this thread, you can believe the situation is being investigated to get to the bottom of it. And your diligence and post are a very positive influence.
Alternatively, all the missing/misplaced packages could be sitting all warm and cozy together in a sorting bin somewhere awaiting for someone to locate them and get them to our hosts and will show up together. This is a very busy time of year for all mail/delivery systems and things are somewhat more likely to be misplaced unfortunately.
Your diligence in following up is sound and your daily monitoring is likely to be helpful to keep the situation with the PO folks at the front of their minds. Hang in there and you have my prayers for a happy ending which I think the odds are in favor of.
Sounds possible that a sticky-fingered USPS employee somewhere grew an IQ point and figured out what PCGS stands for...
Sometimes you grow an IQ point but lose 10 at the same time. Remember that brilliant security guy at the Mint that was taking dollars. How smart is he now.
Gold and silver are valuable but wisdom is priceless.
Ponyexpress8 Thanks for the encouragement and I have now contacted Pcgs and talked to david who has turned over the info to there security personel. Don't know if they were aware of this before today as when I called them last week they said to give it time. I did talk to the Supervisor at Newport PO this morning, and I could tell it is a wait and see if and when the packages show up. I also got the impression that until I file a missing package 21 days after they do NOT have a postal inspector investigating until then. I have done what anyone would have if they were put into this situation and in the end I really hope they do find mine and the other pcgs packages. I am sure whoever those folks are, they probally have that sick feeling too. Tom. I was also told to maybe keep my eyes on ebay and if I see them to report to Postal Inspector immediatly.........

Nope and at this point I must admit I have lost all hope in seeing my coins again. I was told by PCGS they would give me a call, nothing........The PO is the same, I have left 3 messages in Chicago and they will not even call me back. Lets just wait 21 days. I Will Never send another package to our Host, and I will never trust the USPS again. Yes packages get lost but how many PCGS Packages are missing from that Friday morning? Any others since than? Again I have no idea what happened to those packages its just been that sick feeling I have had since mine didn't show up, I have read other threads here where the OP claims the coin is stolen and it shows up, I have tried to refrain from any posts claiming this, and to give them the benefit, well I just don't care anymore. I will file the claim next wensday, I learned a lesson and think maybe a break from coins might do me good.............Enjoy

Tom, this $uck$...I know. The real thing that $uck$ is, I know you well enough to know you're the LAST guy that deserved this to happen to (not saying others deserve to have their packages go missing...I wouldn't wish this on anyone). I'm sorry, for ya, bud. I'm still crossing my fingers, but deep down, feel it's all for naught (sic?)
The same thing happened at the Newport Beach post office 10 years ago with packages on their way to PCGS. Check the old threads for more info. They caught the guy but nobody ever got there coins back or even an explanation. Very few were able to get the post office to pay the insurance claims or were only paid pennies on the dollar. A really bad thing all the way around.
Hang in there. Call Chicago again. Sooner or later they will call back. If they tell you you have to wait 21 days, so be it. Under the circumstances, the possibility of theft is significant and an inquiry from Chicago to the Anaheim office regarding your insurance tracking number would be appropriate, IMO.
I sent a submission via Express Mail with insurance yesterday and it was signed for and delivered in Newport Beach this morning.
I really hope you get your coins back. Really disheartening sequence of events.

<< <i>I understand that my value of those 2 coins were priceless meaning that no amount of money is going to make me feel better. >>
How about $250,000? Would that make you feel better? >>
NO Amount of money would replace those 2 coins and you of all people should realize some coins that we spend time searching for are not replaceable with cash. I did fill out there form this morning on the usps website thank chessman. I will try again to call the chicago office this morning, and I will call pcgs again today. I was also told all packages registered and priority when they get to the Newport office they are all locked up together. The address for the registered mail is the same as the address for priority mail. Its another day will see what happens.............thanks all tom
Some of you have heard my story by PM. I had a similar situation happen to me with the USPS several years ago. My coins to PCGS had been opened at the Atlanta hub and "lost." There was no way the package had been ripped apart accidently and the name fell off. I had them in a box, which was addressed within a smaller box which was addressed. I called the Postmaster General in D.C. he happened to be in the office and I got to speak with him. He got an earfull from me and he said he would check into it. Within an hour, I had a phone call telling me the coins had been "found" and were on their way back to me. I lost the money I had spent on mailing and insurance, but I received my coins back. Get on the phone with the Postmaster General or at least his personal secretary. You can get the number off the internet. I have been sending packages since 1972 and this was the only major problem I have had.

Well my wife just recieved a package that was mailed in August (3months ago), the company had long ago replaced the merchandise, heres hoping yours shows up also.
I just got off the phone with pcgs and if your thinking of mailing a package I suggest you think about this........3 Packages that were missing were found and delievered to pcgs ALL THOSE BOXES WERE TORN OPEN. They had a hand stamp of RECEIVED WITHOUT CONTENTS.....In other words EMPTY, now my package was not one of the 3 and is STILL Missing. Why would the PO deliever a package that has no contents? This is nuts and if you feel safe about sending anything than I say go ahead take the chance. Sorry to hear all this and now realize they'll be lucky to find my Empty box tom ( Instead of bumping, they will not tell me how the other boxes were shipped, only that When the packages reach Newport Beach there are ALL locked up together...............doubt I will ever find out what other coins are even missing as it seems I am the only one out of the bunch that comes here)............
To be clear though, you didn't use Registered Mail. I have a lot more faith in registered mail than I do in priority mail. Do you know if any of the other packages were sent registered?
<< <i>I completely understand all the frustration you are experiencing over this, Tommy, my missing customers' parcels pretty much ruined my Thanksgiving....I allowed it to, and there has to be someway to keep from letting these disasters get to you. >>
As far as I am concerned it is now over, they recovered 3 empty boxes I do believe its time to let this one go. Now this needs to be used as a warning to anyone who is thinking of shipping coins thru anaheim. There is a THIEF in the post office and sadly by the time they figured it out those coins are gone. I would love to hear someday that a person is caught, but I am not going to hold onto this. I will keep searching for those 2 coins again. My registry set has been a labor of love and will continue to be untill I hit number 1 Enjoy

This happened to me once, and I got the package back empty with the received without contents notification. Not long after, the buyer contacted me to let him know that he received the coin- the PO had re-packaged it and delivered it to him. >>
My registry set has been a labor of love and will continue to be untill I hit number 1 Enjoy
you are part of the system that will catch this jerkwad.
do not give up the fight.... although the coin may be sold off already.
perhaps a APB to coin dealers and pawn shops in LA area to look for your coin. fax them a note and the soon to be blurry image, and see if you get hits.
fight for it!
<< <i>I just got off the phone with pcgs and if your thinking of mailing a package I suggest you think about this........3 Packages that were missing were found and delievered to pcgs ALL THOSE BOXES WERE TORN OPEN. >>
This happened to me once, and I got the package back empty with the received without contents notification. Not long after, the buyer contacted me to let him know that he received the coin- the PO had re-packaged it and delivered it to him. I know your situation is kinda the reverse of this, but it can happen. I have a thread here on it somewhere, but I can't find it...
Edited to Add- I found the thread.
Oh, and 200.
