I am interested in opinions regarding the question of authenticity. I haven't noticed any obvious signs of forgery, but I'm open to opinions.
Had this in hand for a close look last night. The real deal! As some surmised, an old dip, but full XF features. Winning!
Lately I have found CL to be very fruitful, and I am usually very cynical about even searching there.

it is a I/II which is on-par with the many combinations for the 1875 year
i'm going to pass on even just an opinion. too many of these counterfeits are so good guessing from images like these is a crap-shoot, sorry
maybe someone much more experienced than I can speak about mm shape and/or location

It is a type 1/1 which is the most common of just two different combos known for the year and 3 total for the series (not counting a rare hybrid hub type die that would make technically 4)
That example looks ok with no major red flags but I would need to see it in hand To be 100%
If you could take a picture straight on it may assist in authenticating.
<< <i>It is a type 1/1 which is the most common of just two different combos known for the year >>
so then the 75/76 aren't found like this:
I/I
I/II
II/I
II/II
?
.
<< <i>Hard to evaluate authenticity from that lousy pic but it looks very harshly cleaned. Pass. >>
What makes you say harshly cleaned? I see a dipped coin but no hairlines or that raw silver look that normally makes me think harshly. It is a little glossy and i agree with the rest of the assessment.
where the coin is located doesn't help much, not to put too paranoid/negative spin on the hosting site

The known combos ( I would be shocked if new ones come to light) are
1/1
1/2
2/2
And there is a 1.5/2 transitional die pair on a rare 76p. If you go into my signature line the very first picture is a hub type 101 chart you might find helpful

Looks glossy which leads me to believe it has been worked on a lot more than just a quick dip.

ya i've been through your set and snagged the image of the known hub types many many months ago from this forum and read a lot from david lawrence and some e-gobrechts curtosey of the lscc
there were some great readings on the modified features on the rare hub type you mention and the commentary was great.
so the search is on for the II/I.
off I go....
