Hungary 1929 5 Pengo Re-Strike Information?

I'm trying to find out some information on the coin below for a friend. I am pretty sure it's a X#Pn12.1 which is a re-strike. However, in the catalogue it mysteriously says "Original patterns exist without the UP under the crown". This coin has no UP under the crown. Anyone got any more information they'd like to share on this coin? Or perhaps a value?

Nothing to share vis a vis the rarity etc, but a lovely coin. But also enigmatic in that Saint Ladislaus appears to be spearing the Madonna and Child.

  • What catalog are you finding this in? I looked in my 2007 and 20011 Krause and can't find a listing for. A beautiful coin however.

Here is my example of the coin with the UP under the crown.

These restrikes were minted sometime in the 1960s, and I have never seen numbers for the quantity with which they were produced. I have never seen a pattern version without the "UP" under the crown. I love the design! Very nice! You attribution as X#Pn12.1 is correct.

It is in the unusual world coin catalogue. I have found out they were struck in the 1960's by the Hungarian foreign ministry as gifts to VIPs. Thanks forr all the comments.

It is odd that St. Ladislaus does look like he has a javelin with the Madonna and Child on the end of it. Typically that is frowned upon in saintly parts.

    Very nice coin indeed!
