Nice coin. Oddly enough, I only own two Franklins that aren't bulk silver and both are from 1953. Here is another 1953-D

My favorite Franklin I own was bought from Russ.......and I love that Phil captured the 'green' clapper.
The coin displays the green clapper only in certain light and angles.
    It's also my birth year.

    image

edited to add: Great looking Frankies everyone......TomB, love the grainy colors on your 53-D obverse.
Swampboy, love the golden yellow red veined obverse periphery.

    Some Lovely looking Frankies guys!!!

Asking for a favorite is like asking which is my favorite child... it ain't gonna' happen. Five of my Franklins are plate coins for Tomaska's new book, and that doesn't include a bunch of others that I think are on my top ten list. I have a bucket load of duplicates of some date/mm. This one is by NO stretch of the imagination my favorite Frankie, not even in the top 10, but it's a real nice Frankie for the date/mm, I haven't posted it in awhile, and it appears we're posting a lot of material from the late '40's and early '50's.

Nope, I found it in of all places at a small local coin show. I was VERY surprised to find it. It's an NGC MS65*FBL.

My icon IS my coin. It is a gem 1949 FBL Franklin.
  • SwampboySwampboy Posts: 13,100 ✭✭✭✭✭
    Wow.
Nice examples. Thanks for posting all.

Mine was given the FBL designation despite the ticks to the bell lines.
I purchased it from forumite marmac.

My favorite in this thread has got to be Goldbully's 48-D with the green clapper.
That's a year and mintmark I need for my birthyear mint set.

    SB, Goldbully's Frankie is a '48 P not a D. It is indeed a Great looking Frankie. Since it's your birthyear, here's a P and a D from that year...

But these two endroll toners just take the cakeimage

I actually have quite a few Franklins and hope to image some of them this winter. Many are deep cameo and many are toned. But here is probably my favorite. Not a dcam and not spectacularly toned and not high grade (63 cameo) but it has both cameo and toning.

Photos by Airplanenut - coin resides in an older NGC PR63 cameo holder.
