Luck...specimens, or what?

I just looked at HAGs auction archives to see that ALL the Saints I sold at FUN Jan. 2010 are still on the books at record highs, some by very significant amounts. 
I still miss the "Syrup Sorority" but I get some solace from their perceived value. They sure wuz pretty!

I agree, but it's a very difficult thing for a die-hard collector to do. We tend to want to hold onto
our coins until they have to be pried from our cold, dead hands---even when common sense tells
us to sell now, collect a fat profit, and then buy everything back for much less five years down the road.

I sold a lot of stuff in Summer 2008 in order to buy a painting - it was a good time to sell the coins but not sure if we came out ahead overall??

The reality is that you may not know if you got out at the right time until years later.
And if Saints set new records in 2013, will it still have been the right time to sell in 2010?

No sense in driving in the rear view mirror. Sold is sold and I was very, very pleased with the results. I am certain that at some point all the prices will be shattered simply based on the history of tangible, well-established collectibles.
As Lakesamman said, I really was not CHOSING that time as much as time (is. divorce) had told me to sell. They were great coins though. I would say that every one of the 8 was the finest for the grade of these scarce issues. In fact two of them are now residing in higher grade holders...but good for them. I got GRADE PLUS prices for that reason.

And maybe the market is soft right now, but I'll bet that doesn't make them any easier to find.

I seem to recall a deal about a pair of 94S dimes, that you flipped in a month and made a nice chunk of change.
Also sorry to hear about the divorce and the liquidation of the collection, however top prices realized in a market that's currently sluggish/stalled. Nothing to fret about IMO

I would guess a bit of luck on timing combined with the quality of the coins (as evidenced by some having been upgraded). Have any of them been up for auction again? If so, how did they do?
