Has the Registry Forum "death knell" sounded??

The Registry Forum has always been a puzzling thing for me. IIRC it began at the behest and lobbying of a member and always struck me as a specialized sub-forum of the US/BST rooms. I have visited with regularity over the years, mainly to read and see what might be offered For Sale, and have noticed the rise and now the steady fall in participation which I've noticed during the past year especially. This morning i was seriously shocked to 6 threads showing as current!!!!
Has the Registry Forum run its course?? Is it time for it to be dissolved??

FWIW, I think that this forum has also slowed considerably, but it is not nearly as obvious as what has happened to the Registry Forum.

This is true.
But it was obvious from the outset that as the Registry matured, people would "settle in," the rankings would become established/stagnant, changes in people's entries would be desultory, and activity would wane. Admiring comments and excited additions, once stated, had no reason for repetition. And as noted, the move to BST posts to take up the emptying space wasn't enough to reignite a fan base.
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
That's news to me. No BST threads are allowed there.
I like the Registry forum. To me it's a forum for more advanced collectors who are pursuing specific specific collecting interests.
One issue is that many of the top Registry participants keep their interests very private and shy away from public discussions.

It's interesting to me that participation is down as it seems to be that registry sets are as popular as ever.
Might it be an indication of overall decrease in participation in this coin forum, decrease in participation in coin forums, more generally, or decrease in participation in coins?
I would add that when the Registry Forum was active there seemed to be various phases where certain specific types of coins were actively discussed (and sometimes promoted
Don and RYK also had a good point as well.
But, there is another factor to consider ....
Many of the previously active participants there moved into gold, silver and platinum modern coins. These coins are spoken about in threads on the US Coin Forum .... threads that now have 10,000+ comments in one case. They could have just as easily been opened on the registry forum, but the buyers of these moderns are generally not buying them to register sets with the coins. I, myself, have purchased a ton of these coins in the past half a dozen years and have not placed virtually any, if any, of my purchases in registry sets. Also, many buyers who were previously "registry set collectors" are now modern coin "flippers" and in many cases obtaining AMAZING returns on their coins. Just last month, if you were smart enough to pay $900 for a half oz. of gold from the US Mint (with NO limit) in the form of MS Hayes or Garfield spouse coins (which is nearly "melt" today just on the gold content), you would have had roughly a 50% return in the past 30 days (tomorrow is a new day and of course that incredible return can keep rising or drop back down). Or, how about the 2009 Ultra High Relief that just sold for close to $21,000 in the GC auction that cost about $1200 from the US Mint 3 years ago! Coins like this are being discussed by scores of "collector/flippers"on a number of threads on the US Coin Forum. I have chosen to keep my comments there as well, especially in light of the fact that few people are actually registering these modern coin purchases in registry sets best I can tell.
But, I personally believe it would be easy enough to "rejuvinate" the action on the registry forum just by introducing threads on these modern coins and ultra modern coins. This is "where the action is" now. I won't even begin to list the classic coin dealers here that have moved (solidly) into modern coins now. One just needs to go over to the dealer network (CCE) and see the buys on spouse coins, gold eagles, silver eagles, platinum, eagles, etc. and in many cases where the bids are coming from!
But, to get the registry forum "back on track", I think I will post a few threads on these very topics (modern gold, silver, platinum coins) and see if the action can pick up over there once again.
As always, just my 2 cents.

Don, if you do a quick look at the Registry forum you will see that of the 20 threads on page one there are six that are specifically listing coins for sale, one that is requesting a coin for purchase and one that provides a directly link to a TeleTrade auction, but does not state that the poster owns the coin. That would be eight threads out of 20, which is 40% of the threads directly written for and engaged in BST activities.

i only see seven threads, but to the point of coins for sale at that forum i have always understood it was allowed so long as the coins being sold were Registry coins intended to be used in Registry Sets. i never understood the logic but it's allowed.
I just posted a thread over there on platinum. Let's see if any cares.

Al, if you go under "Customize" and then scroll down, there is an option for the number of days that will appear in a forum display. Perhaps you have your settings to something lower than mine and this setting might lead you to see fewer threads.

Don, here is a post that copied the original message (from BJ) back in 2005. This was the allowing of BST threads, within guidance as listed, on the Registry Forum:
Link to authorizing thread
Note....I have registry sets but am not a bigtime player, so I haven't bought, nor sold, registry coins from that forum. It is too bad that it isn't as active as it was fun for awhile, but some of that activity was, as mentioned, folks pumping up certain coins/series for their own benefits. I do miss the Roosevelt guys...they always seemed to have a good time, and be very helpful and not just pump their series in order to sell their stuff.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

According to the
Set Registry Forum Rules:
"The PCGS Set Registry forum is for PCGS Set Registry participants to discuss Set Registry issues, to share photos from their collections, to post want lists, and to sell duplicates and other registry coins."
No mention of "trading coins" but thats a short jump when a registry participant has something like a duplicate for sale.
Granted, Set Registry discussion has been minimal aside from Cosetta's update threads and a majority of the threads are "For Sale" offerings BUT this is not a violation of the forums rules (according to the rules).
The biggest difference between the selling/trading/buying of coins of the Set Registry Forum and the BST Forum is that ttt's are not allowed on the Registry Forum.

Frankly, anyplace or venue is MUCH better than the B,S&T forum. That forum sucks!! It needs to be redone and organized.
It's terrible!!!!!

I seem to remember that it was ok to mention in passing that a coin was for sale, but don't recall that it was allowed to specifically make for sale posts. At least that's how I sorta remember it.
I only see 7 posts in the PCGS Registry forum. I do not see any posts regarding forum rules.
If BST has been traditionally allowed that's ok with me. I just don't want to see any spamming.
Edited to add: If anyone is concerned about the lack of posts on the Registry Forum trying posting something yourself.

The default setting on the customize page for number of past days of threads to view is 20. That can be edited to go up to 9999 days.

As for the Registry Forum...........I visit on occasion unless there is an active thread that I have interest in (Presidential Dollar First Day of Issue) OR if I've upgraded my set(s).
