ambro51ambro51 Posts: 13,945 ✭✭✭✭✭
All right. Here's the project. Gather together 2 rolls of Lincoln cents from your dresser top, change can, pocket change. Search this 100 coins for any of the 2009 Lincoln cents. Record variety and report back. Let's SEE what the rarity situation of these pieces in circulation is. Here's what I came up with, from my Wife's change can....~~~~~.2009 log cabin, 1. 2009 Capitol, 1. Also one wheat 1946. 76 were memorials and 21 shields.

I can go for weeks without receiving ANY 2009 cents in change, so my answer would be 0. I believe the last one I found, more than 100 cents ago, was a woodcutter.

  • These are hoarded and not always found, there are also probably millions upon millions still in the federal banks as every couple of months I see rolls of them being cracked open and given out as change at the Pentagon. Mostly the cabin ones

So far two replies from poor people who can't count. image

I can count and the only ones I see are the ones I am putting into circulation as they have no errors on them. When the coin pickers guide comes out next year you will not be able to pick these up anywhere as they are fast becoming a hard to find item at a reasonable cost because of a low mintage and the millions of collectors, never mind all the errors in the formative years ones.

The purpose here is to actually DO this instead of armchair commentary. It's easy it reeeealy is. Right now given my sample two percent of circulating lincoln cents are 2009s. C'mon. Do it

I have found only 2 in change that I can recall! One was a cabin and one was a formative years.

  • I got 82 memorials, 11 shields, one 1956d wheat and 6 Canadians. Since I live 5 blocks from the Canadian border it is pretty common to get the Canadians cents, and sometimes quarters, dimes and nickels too.

    can't find the scale.

    64 - 83 and newer
    36 - 82 and older (I know) with the oldest being a 59D.

    98 - memorials
    2 - acorns - 2010's
    no 2009's

I had to get 2 rolls from the bank and they were hand wrapped. perhaps the persons liked the 2009s and wheats but not the acorns? eh.

The ratio of bronze to zinc was about right.

I did receive $6 in 2012 acorns, complete with wrapping machine rash. I'm going back tomorrow to see if they have any more.

    dissatisfied with the hand rolled....

    25 - 1982 and older
    73 - 1983 and older

    2 Canadian cents from 1973 and 1985

    92 - memorials
    6 - acorns -> 5 2011 and 1 2010D
    2 - Canadian

    still no 2009.

I also predict stefanie and maaayyyybe even the Penny Lady might be looking for some acorn toners in the future that feature the striping on the shield. All of my "ordinary" toners have alternating colored stripes toned on.

    << <i>Acorns? >>

2010 to Date - Union Shield Cents - Acorns because that is what the shield looks like

Me being me, I decided to try again.

    Why? I'm not sure.

    31 - Memorial Cents 1982 and earlier
3 - Wheat cents - 2 of which are AU 1943... one cleaned, both spotty with a some apparent rust on the non-cleaned one.
    64 - Memorial Cents 1983 to 2008
    2 - Acorns - 2010 and 2012

    still no 2009.

These were hand rolled from the bank.

Glad to see the 43's as the kid needed a refresher on what they looked like since it's been a while.

They are not rare at all, just hoarded like the bicentennial coinage
