1897-S Barber dime S/S unlisted

I found this coin in a jar of coins I bought.
I can't find any reference to an S/S for this 1897-S dime. Does anyone have additional information about this coin. It also seems to be a large S over a small S. I didn't know there was a small S struck on this coin.

I've attached my photo bucket link to the image.
How the heck do you show the image on this post instead of the link?

When you hover your mouse over the picture, the drop down menu option you want is the last one on the list. Just click it to copy and paste it in your thread.

Nice pic! To my untrained eye, it does look like a s/s, but it would be nice to see the rest of the coin to see what else might be going on.

I have never seen this variety before and after checking with Kevin Flynn's book,
neither has he. I did see a mention in Lawrence's book that there was a RPM @ East
but he advises it has to be Shelf Doubling. Lawrence advised looking at Breen's Encycolpedia.

Breen mentions a scarce Doubled S - the MM is punched to the right of the final position.

What you have is something that these catalogers have not seen, a S/s. clearly the Dime MM struck
over the Quarter MM which was obviously used in error.

This coin should be referred to the Barber Coin Collectors Society for the general membership
    to evaluate.

    Very neat find. Congratulations.

Wish I had known this was a previously unreported OMM.
    I had one of these in my Barber Dime set, which I sold this past summer;
it was similar in grade to the OP's example.

    Very cool image

So how do I go about getting this coin reviewed by the Barber Coin Collectors Society? Do I just google them and post these pictures?

What will happen is that the images will get posted in the next Quarterly journal
and the membership will make comments about it which is a time consuming senario.
All I can say is add your description and images to the Mega Barber Thread - Part Two
[ part one was jammed up ]

I don't know who might have an interest, but I assume that DIMEMAN [ Jon Potts ] very well might.

I wouldn't hesitate to contact the editor of Coin World about this as well attaching images.
The more publicity you generate - the better you'll do when it comes time to sell.

I think you have something here - best of luck to you.

Sorry I'm not going to be. Collecting and selling is a side line for me, but getting bigger all the time. Nothing I like more than looking through a bunch of coins for RPMs, or double dies.

I was informed that this coin is being discussed in this Quarter's BCCS Journal .

I spotted another today in a PCGS 35 holder in a friend's inventory. I asked that
he pull the coin until we figure out what the story is on this RPM.

    See y'all at FUN. !!
