    The fact that your two New Orleans Morgans are in the Gem Unc. grades, you have nothing to complain about. Those are hard to find above BU because New Orleans coins are known for weak strikes.

    The fact that your two New Orleans Morgans are in the Gem Unc. grades, you have nothing to complain about. Those are hard to find above BU because New Orleans coins are known for weak strikes.

    Actually, this is not true on the 1883 New Orleans dollars. They are usually found well struck and beautiful.
    Common misconception. Although there are years that are horribly struck for the most part '83 is not one. With
    a mintage of over 8 million coins you can find all sorts of strikes including weak ones. Luster is all over the place
    as well. But, since there were so many made, it is not hard to find a sharply struck specimen with decent luster.
