PCGS - Smoothed description

There is a Pan Pac $21/2 gold up for auction at Heritage in a PCGS Genuine holder that says "Smoothed" - XF Details. I have never see that description. What does it Smoothed mean?

Perhaps there was a repair of the coin such as an inscription, gouge or scratch removed from the fields?

This. Something such as graffiti was smoothed from the fields with a burnishing tool or a dremel with a small rotary brush attachment.
